Luke 16:1-8, sometimes called "the unjust steward," is widely regarded by scholars to be the most difficult parable. it brings us in direct confrontation with the limits of our understanding, and as such, humbles us. a contemplative faith is much more than a way to seek understanding by deep thought; it is an acceptance of uncertainty and mystery that draws us ever closer to the God that continually defies our understanding, and is yet intimately close to us.
