Thank God this technology wasn’t implemented during the COVID debacle. Can you imagine?

To those people willing to give up their freedom for the promise of more security, remember just a few short years ago when the government told you not to leave your house. These cameras are now everywhere and could be used to enforce that. How would you like to go to jail for being outside your house and this is your witness?

We already have examples of people using these cameras to stalk their exes. We also have examples of these cameras being hacked.

We are seeing these little skinny posts popping up all over the Panhandle. They are flock cameras watching you. These are not simply “license plate scanners” that compare your license plate to a criminal database. They take a picture with the time, date, and location of your car. And this data is stored indefinitely. Big brother is here.

Happy birthday to the sweetest person I know. Sophie and I met 36 years ago, and I’ve tried my best to make her feel special ever since. I don’t think y’all understand, I’m a handful, but this sweet soul embraces me and supports me in a way most people cannot. She left her family and country behind to be with me. She transferred universities in order to be closer to me. She believed in me when no one else did.

Instead of pursuing a masters degree, she put me through medical school. Instead of pursuing her own dreams, she took over my medical billing, a very thankless job, in order to provide better for our children. Although she hated politics, she was by my side every time I needed her.

I’ve put her through a lot, so when you see us travelling the globe, this is my way of making her feel as special as she truly is. I’m so glad we met on that faraway island country, Sophie. I love you and want you to have a very happy birthday today!

I am happy to report the city of Tampa is becoming a welcoming and deserving Stanley Cup playoff host.
In past years, the owners limited ticket sales strictly to zip codes within Florida, prioritizing a home team atmosphere over a packed arena. They even went as far to prevent opposing team’s merch from being worn in the VIP sections or in the arena itself, which is unheard of in real hockey towns. Sounds like Communist China, doesn’t it?

Last night, I proudly attended Game 1 in my Habs sweater and witnessed a stadium that was made up of at least 25% Montreal fans. Thank you, Tampa Bay Lightning, for being a gracious host.

I want to give a shout out to something uniquely Floridian- Columbia Restaurant. No matter which location you visit, the filets are always mouth-watering and ever so tender. We have visited every single location over the last 20 years, and in that time, I’ve never had a bad filet. It’s like they’re cloning the perfect meat- a filet so tender, I’ve literally used a butter knife to cut it.
The sangria de cava is excellent, but you can also treat yourself to a guava spritz. Go for it!

And if you go to the original location in Ybor City, be sure and get a table for the flamenco dancing show. Add a touch of refined culture to your meal.

It’s billed as a Spanish restaurant, which it is, but make no mistake- this is a celebration of Cuban heritage, as well. This kind of experience is what America is all about. What a night!

BREAKING NEWS!
An appellate court this week threw out a summary judgement that allowed beachfront owners to annex sandy areas that were never their property. This process of “quiet title” arose when new owners in the Vizcaya area claimed they were “lied to” and their deeds mistakenly didn’t include the sand all the way to the water, despite their longtime neighbors and owners telling them their property line stops up by the dunes. This is a huge win for public beach supporters. The case was remanded to a lower court.

I left Tallahassee because the Florida House Republicans decided they weren’t going to listen to my Governor Ron DeSantis any more.

America’s Governor called for property tax cuts and tax relief for Floridians; instead, the weak Legislature gave him renamed roads and a fight over the state bird. Those tone-deaf legislators will get theirs in the next election.

Let’s hope the Governor calls them back to pass property tax reform. And even though I’m retired, I’ll make this easy for them.

Whatever your property is appraised for at the time of purchase, that’s your assessed basis for the entire time you own that home. It can’t go up, not even for inflation. So if your closing costs say you owe $2,000 a year property tax, it remains that way no matter how much your house value appreciates. When you sell the house, the new owner will pay whatever the rate is for the newly appraised value. That’s fair to everyone involved.

File it, pass it, and I’m sure the Governor signs it.

I would like to point out all the wonderful mom and pop businesses that have been harmed by all this beach nonsense. How do I know? Because I stopped at each and every one of them and asked how the beach access fight was affecting their volume. In some cases, their business was down as much as 30% due to tourists not coming back.
