Horses are matriarchal. Year of the Horse. Year of the Matriarchy. 2026
In a wild horse herd, the common assumption is that the stallion is the leader. However, the stallion has two other but just as important jobs: to protect the herd and keep everyone together. His place is often at the back of the herd driving forward.
The true leader of the herd is almost always the oldest and wisest mare. She is a leader because she knows the secrets of her environment. She knows where the water sources are, she knows when to come down from the mountains before it snows, she knows where food and shelter are. When it's time for her to lead forward, she doesn't ask the herd to come with her, she doesn't beg them, or even wait for them. She starts moving towards her goal and the herd knows it's in their best interest to follow her.
This is the kind of leadership we need now. It's time to follow old wise mares to water.
