Sutter/Kaiser Santa Risa Family Mediine Residency Skills Day!
We had another successful event of shared collaboration, education, and time together. Our residencies provide incredible opportunities to hone outpatient and inpatient procedures as well as training in POCUS. Special thanks to our Skills Day leads: Dr Cherie Green (Sutter) and Dr David Della Lana (KPSRO). Dr Shawn Hsieh (Physical Medicine) helped teach large joint injections and the benefit of handheld ultrasound (POCUS) in guiding placement. We expect to have some delicious papaya (aka uterine model) in the next few days as we utilize these to train in IUD/EMB. But it was Dr Tara Scott (Sutter PD) imitating an IUD that made for the best memory of the day! Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency

Congratulations to our very own, Dr. Molly Kay, PGY-2, for receiving the 2023-2024 Resident Teacher of the year award! Dr. Kay was selected by Touro medical students for her impactful work on their education through her mentoring.

Our residents get the opportunity to teach and mentor throughout their 3 years with: Third year medical students on a variety of rotations, fourth year sub-I’s on inpatient and outpatient family medicine, and mentoring opportunities with local high school and college students.

Congratulations Dr. Kay! We are very proud of you! 🎉

Foot and Ankle Surgery Rotation: when a model is needed to help an ortho tech practice casting, Marissa R2 had the opportunity to volunteer! We are grateful to get to learn with some of our amazing sub specialists and participate in the care they provide our patients. The foot and ankle department is a joy to rotate though!

Happy Match Week!

Residency may be busy but residents make time to stay connected with each other, including partners and furry/human kids! We also care about residents and faculty connecting with our wider communities, and advocating for social justice both locally and globally. R3 Thomas Dowlearn just returned from Peten Guatemala where he and our amazing Dr. Kate Feibusch (founder and director of Peten Health) taught POCUS to the lay community health workers caring for the majority of the community’s healthcare needs. Additionally, our residents recently got together to discuss and advocate for current humanitarian causes. As physicians, we can use our power and privilege to advocate for those who have no voice. This can take the form of reading and educating ourselves about current events, writing letters to elected officials, voting, providing direct care/education, and more. Part of our mission at KP Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency is to train leaders who will help transform the health, and health equity, of our communities. This means taking positive action to better support both our immediate communities and beyond.
