🚨 Myth vs. Fact 🚨

Myth: Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) only happens to people with a history of heart problems.

Fact: For many people, SCA is the first indication that something is wrong with the heart. It can strike without warning, even in people who appear healthy and have no known heart disease.

That’s why awareness, CPR training, and access to AEDs are so critical. When more people know how to recognize SCA and respond quickly, more lives can be saved.

Just a reminder that we are holding an American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED class in Healdsburg on Saturday 3/28/26.

Come learn how to save a life! We'll be focusing on what to do to help adults, children and infants in the critical minutes before 911 arrives.

The class provides a 2-year certificate and will be covering the skills needed to handle choking, cardiac arrest, life-threatening bleeding, heart attack and more. This is a 'blended' class with the best of both worlds: Watch the majority of the presentations etc online at your convenience, then head to the in-person session to review the material, ask any questions and get that all-important hands-on practice with our friendly and patient instructor.

New research shows that where AEDs are placed—and who’s trained to use them—can make a life-saving difference.

A study published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine examined AED placement in more than 1,300 grocery stores across multiple states. Over nearly eight years, store employees responded to 396 cardiac emergencies—often being the first on the scene.

💓 294 people received CPR and/or AED care
⚡ 112 people received life-saving AED shocks
👥 In most cases, a trained employee stepped in to help

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, to anyone. Survival depends on fast action. This study reinforces what we know to be true: visible, accessible AEDs—paired with CPR/AED training—save lives.
