It’s a long standing and important ritual for me when I return home from a long trip to take a little time to reconnect to the energy of Home.

I have several special places that I love to visit, to sit in, to sink in. Places that speak to my Heart, places that whisper their welcome.

We arrived back to Florida late Monday night, after 24+ hours of traveling. We had an absolutely amazing time in Japan (see my personal / dance account for some of the amazing adventures) and I miss it already, but I also was just so happy to be back to the Land here. This is my birthplace, and where I’ve lived my entire life. And always is simply Home.

Late Tuesday I caught this sunset at the Bay, where I offered Kintus of gratitude for a safe journey and all the magic that unfolded while we traveled. The rest of the week I’ve been settling in, adjusting to a time zone 13 hours behind where I’d been, and catching up on all the work stuff I was able to pause.

I’m so grateful for these experiences, and also for the wisdom to have these connections with the Land and its Spirits in several places.

🌸Currently in the Land of the Rising Sun🌸

I’ve traveled back here to meet the Cherry Blossoms, a long time bucket list item for my sweet husband While of course my herbalist heart is overjoyed to be experiencing this massive mega bloom, I am also thrilled to be sharing it with someone who loves nature as much as I do.

Last night as we were walking to our hotel, we happened upon a little park and there lit up in the center was one lone plucky cherry just starting to bloom. As I was setting our bags aside to go meet the tree I turned around to find Bri already beside it, happily photographing the blooms, eagerly meeting the tree and its pink blossoms with the biggest smile.

He is such a gentle soul and I love catching him in moments when he is connecting to nature, watching his kindness and love for all creatures shine.

This adventure we don’t have too much planned, we are just going where our hearts and whims take us. Mostly we are listening to the trees, the mountains, the Spirits, and letting them guide our way.

This is my favorite way to travel and I am so thankful to do so with such a fantastic partner 🥰💖🌸

🌿 STRESS LESS: MEET FLORIDA’S HEALING HERBS 🌿

Did you know that some of the most powerful stress-relieving herbs are growing right in your own backyard? And yet—so few people talk about them.

That’s what makes this class so special. You won’t find this information just anywhere.

I’m inviting you to a hands-on experience where you’ll not only learn about these incredible local plants, but you’ll also get to work with them—touch, taste, smell, and create with them.

🧪 This month’s herbal make-and-take? A stress-supporting tincture you’ll craft yourself, using the same time-tested techniques herbalists have used for centuries.

In this class, you will:
🌱 Learn to identify powerful, calming herbs that grow in Florida—so you can find and use them on your own
🌱 Discover their medicinal & edible properties, from an herbalist & botanist with 30+ years of experience
🌱 Use your senses to connect with the plants in a deep, meaningful way
🌱 Take home a custom herbal tincture you make yourself (plus the knowledge to make it again!)

Four years ago today - how has it been 4 years already?! - I was following my heart down down down south to the Everglades.

For the first time ever, I had dreamed about a plant & allowed its siren call to lure me into the wild. We were heading down for a very short belated bday weekend to try to find the States’ (some say the World’s) most poisonous tree - the Manchineel.

I had no idea where we were going.

All I had was one sketchy blog post online, & a very quiet but insistent nudge in my heart. I hadn’t ever even seen the tree in person, & the pics online really didn’t do it justice either, but I knew I had to try to find it.

This photo captures a very special moment. The first steps into the ‘glades- we pulled off on the side of the road so I could just walk headlong into this baby cypress dome. I see, now, this was me greeting the Spirit of the Everglades, & the Glades welcoming me w such love! Back then though I was just excited to see these trees.

Here is what I wrote about this moment back in 2021:

Gonna leave you with a special moment in a soon to be cypress dome. These baby cypresses may not look like much, but someday they will be towering over me, and hopefully filled with all sorts of neat orchids and air plants. They will provide amazing habitat for plants and animals, help filter the water, and soak up flood waters too. So much beauty and such potential. Grow babies grow!
💚🌿

Turns out it wasn’t just those baby Cypress trees that were growing 😘 And yes, we absolutely did find Manchineel & I was able to work with Him, and make an incredibly powerful flower essence as well. Such an incredible gift from the Tree, the Glades, & the Spirits too!

A little to give you a moment of awe - a lovely naturebreak to soothe hearts and minds

Nature is absolutely stunning, magical, and amazing.

And so, my friend, are You.

Never forget you are part of the Universe, beautiful even in your imperfect moments. This water lily grew from mud so remember - no mud, no lotus. We have to have the muck moments to be able to blossom into our fullest beauty.

Me: stops to smell each and every Camellia I can get my paws on 🥰😍

This is a very special flower that does not grow in my area unless you really are an amazing gardener, which I am not, so I can only see it if I go to gardens. This past week I have gotten to visit a few out of town places and have gotten to see so many and I am just so grateful.

their blooms always remind me of the hope of spring and winter. The fact that even when things are dark, there is so much light available. Yesterday was the first day I ever noticed that often times their leaves have a little toothy serrations on them. So yet another plant, like rose, that has protection to guard. It’s brilliant blooms.

I am reminded that I can be tender hearted and beautifully blooming, even as I protect myself. That was the lesson that this flower whispered to me yesterday, and I am happy to share it with all.

Sunday (Feb 9) join me for my next Florida’s Healing Herbs class!

We are over half full for Sunday’s class so get your tix if you want to join and learn to expand your herbal knowledge. This month, we are exploring local plants that will help with coughs & colds. We will cover a few of my fav local SW FL plants that give that Lung Love and who can also help with the flu funk that’s been going around...so you can immediately put it into practice what you learn (but hopefully will not have to do so). Our focus species will include this beauty... can you guess who it might be? As well as two other fantastic plants.

What’s our Medicine Making activity? I am setting up a fantastic Tea Bar so that you will get to custom blend your own personal tea (an infusion or a decoction) to help you with potential coughs, colds, and future flus!

Can’t make it in person at ? No worries! We have a virtual option (that does not include materials) too!

😱✨Full House - Sold Out - Herbal Magic!

Y’all I am just SO THRILLED!!!

I just held my very first class for my brand new Florida’s Healing Herbals program and oh gosh it was fab!

This is a program that I have been keeping close to my heart for about two years. It has been marinating and gestating, developing and evolving. I put so much work and effort into this class, and the entire program. I am so ready to offer this - I have a year worth of material planned out (ok ok to be honest I have a lot more than that 😅 but I’ve got the full year ready to go) and it is *time* for this course, which focuses on Florida’s plants specifically, to be shared. I am ready to teach it and oh the Plant Spirits are ready too!!

My goal with this course is too full. One, I really want to help people connect with their at home nature, which honestly has been a goal of mine since I first started, providing environmental education programs at the tender age of 12. In this case, I want to empower people to know, recognize, and feel comfortable working with the plants that they would find here in Southwest Florida. And Two, I want to give people a hands-on opportunity to learn simple medicine, making that they can do at home whether they choose to work with these plans or others.

Let’s all take a moment to get the facts straight about Damiana. I see a lot of budding herbalists here in Florida mis-identifying it, so here’s a handy guide to help.

Turnera diffusa = Damiana
🌿Native really only to Texas in the US (seriously we don’t have the right soil for it here in FL as it loves well drained loamy soil); otherwise loves Central & South America & the Carribean too
🌿Smaller flowers
🌿Smaller thinner leaves
🌿Can look almost “spindley”
(Last pic in carousel is true Damiana - pic by Trout, Keeper)

The plant you may have been told is Damiana has its own name, traditions, and medicine. I have found the medicine of this beauty, which is often called Yellow Adler or Ramgoat Dashalong, to be similar yet still a bit different that true Damiana (I would not say it’s a 1:1 as it definitely has some actions on the respiratory system that are lovely).

Turnera ulmifolia = Yellow Adler, Ramgoat Dashalong, Bahamian Buttercup
🌿Not native to Florida but loves it here! Found naturally in Mexico, the Carribean, Central America, & the West Indies. Often grown as an ornamental. And butterflies love it too!
🌿Same flower shape & petals as Damiana…but they are much larger and showier
🌿Similar leaf shape to Damiana but they are much larger & more robust
🌿Grows as a bush, hedge, shrub, can even become quite tall almost like a small tree

Yellow Adler has amazing medicine. I’ve worked with it for respiratory and gastrointestinal health. This plant loves to soothe inflammation, has an affinity for moving things through the body - especially blood- and so can support digestive and circulatory. It has a connection to pelvic / stomach areas well as easing menstrual symptoms like cramps and stomach spasms like “the gripes.”

Both plants are in the Passionflower family.

🌿💚❤️🌿Season’s Greenings from your resident Herbalist & the Plants!

The Leafy Ones asked me to share a few of our native species that are happily red and green for the holidays 🙂 All of these are local to my home in Sarasota, FL two are native and one is naturalized. All are medicinal but probably not edible to a place where you wouldn’t get a tummy ache.

Let’s meet the plants!
🌿Dahoon Holly (native, tree)
Ilex cassine
Often fruits in the “winter” and so provides amazing support for migratory birds and local critters. Not as buzzy as Yaupon but not as chill as galberry - the in between of the local ilex squad. But similar properties (ie a good emetic to know in a pinch).

🌿Sleeping Hibiscus (naturalized, bush)
Malvaviscus sp.
Tasty flowers, tasty root. A classic mucilagenous mallow that’s cooling and soothing. I love including the flowers in infused honeys and sun teas.

🌿Wild Coffee (native, bush)
Psychotria sp probably tenuifolia
Not actual coffee 😉 but was likely included in the fabled black drink created by the indigenous pre Columbian peoples of Florida. A full on medicine chest, this beauty has been useful for all things heat related - dysentery, fevers, skin issues and draining swollen hot limbs. This plant is a great example though of being mindful & learning how to work with it as some Psychotria species do have DMT.

I love finding inspiration in nature. To me there is lots of holiday cheer outside of what we humans decorate 🥰 This morning as I took my walk, I was just so enchanted by the holiday colors I saw all around me. The red fruit of the Dahoon Holly trees and wild coffee bushes, the bold red flowers of the sleeping hibiscus.

❤️💚🌿💚❤️

(No AI used in this post - pics and words all mine. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some copy help but this is accurate & true info from personal experience so if you have questions please do ask 💚🌿 😉 )
