Did you know? Falling can occur because of disruptions to the body’s sensory and/or motor systems, causing loss of balance. To maintain balance, the brain must receive and interpret information from several different senses:

▪️ Vision (from the eyes) helps orient you to your environment.
▪️ Proprioception, or joint position sense (from your joints and muscles) helps to tell your brain where your body is in space.
▪️ The vestibular system (from the inner ear) senses motion, equilibrium, and head position.

Based on these inputs, the brain sends information to different muscles of the body to help maintain balance. Find the FYZICAL nearest you for a balance screening today, by visiting: https://hubs.li/Q02F_tcr0

How can you tell if your balance needs improvement?

Follow the single-leg stance test below to see if balance training could help:

▪️ Stand next to a counter, sink, or chair with your hand gently grasping the counter surface.
▪️ Leave your eyes open and put your hands on your hips. Grasp the surface or put your leg down if you start to feel unsteady during the test.
▪️ Stand on one leg unassisted and have a loved one time you once your foot leaves the ground. Stop the timer if you grasp the counter or when you put your second foot down.

If you were not able to stand on one leg for at least 10 seconds, your balance may need work! Find the clinic nearest you to learn more about our balance training program: https://hubs.li/Q02FWG3V0

Meet our patient, Patricia!

Patricia began therapy at FYZICAL due to lower back pain. She really enjoyed working with her therapist during her sessions, learning new at-home exercises, and making new friends at the clinic. Before physical therapy, she felt low and in pain. Now, she is in less pain and has much more energy!
