Hi, I’m Kim Poonai, APRN, a board-certified nurse practitioner and the owner of Vita Aesthetics, a provider-led medical spa in Sarasota, Florida. I started my nursing career as a cardiac nurse in 2012, and earned my Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Florida in 2017 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep passion for aesthetic medicine, anti-aging, and skin health; that’s what led me to open Vita Aesthetics in 2020. My approach is patient-centered: I focus on facial harmony, safety, and results that still look like you. Spending the day learning from other providers is something I’ll never say no to.

This week I had the chance to do a shadow day with at and it was such a valuable experience.

Watching her approach to consultations, study facial structure, and create intentional treatment plans was such a good reminder that great aesthetic work is thoughtful and never rushed.

Continuing education is extremely important to me. I believe in constantly learning, refining my eye, and evolving as an injector.

Days like this allow me to step back, learn from others in the industry, and continue growing so I can bring the best results to my patients.

Aftercare matters. It can lower swelling and bruising, protect your skin barrier, and help your results last longer.

Most post care comes down to three things: keep things clean, keep inflammation down, and avoid heat or pressure while your skin settles. This is especially true after wrinkle relaxers, dermal filler, microneedling, and CO2 laser resurfacing.

For injectables (wrinkle relaxers and filler):
• Do not rub or massage treated areas for at least 24 hours
• Stay upright for 4 hours after injections
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot tubs for 24 to 48 hours
• Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising is common and should improve over a few days
• Wait about 2 weeks before judging results or considering adjustments

For skin treatments (microneedling and CO2 laser):
• Arrive to healing mode: keep skincare simple and gentle
• Avoid active products like retinoids, acids, and exfoliants until your provider says to restart
• Do not pick, scrub, wax, or exfoliate while your skin is healing
• Avoid sun exposure and use consistent sun protection
• Skip heavy workouts, heat, and sweating for 24 to 48 hours
• Redness and a mild sunburn feeling can be normal; your timeline depends on your treatment depth

If you notice increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, unusual drainage, or anything that feels off, check in with your provider right away.

• Strong facial expression or clenching can shorten tox results
• Skin hydration and sun exposure affect glow and texture results
• Alcohol use, smoking, high stress, and poor sleep kill collagen
• Results last longer when you keep a steady maintenance plan

To help results last:
• Wear SPF daily and reapply when outside
