Can’t lose weight and you’re doing all the things?! Did you know that women should NOT fast like men?!Why? Because women are more sensitive to stress than men, especially cycling women!A woman’s cycle depends on progesterone—a hormone that is very soothing, cooling and calming in the menstrual cycle. But when there is too much stress (cortisol) in their body, this will steal from progesterone and create more hormonal symptoms throughout the cycle, especially before (known as PMS)Because women’s bodies are more sensitive to stress, a calorie deficit creates more stress in a woman’s body, which causes her body to think that it is starving. Because of this, her body will hold onto more fat because it is not sure when it’s next to meal is coming. This is where intermittent fasting does not work in a woman’s favor. Women’s hormones in menopause are much different and actually work more like a man’s at that time, so this can be different for women post-menopause. However, her whole lifestyle of stress and hormonal balance still needs to be taken into account here. Please note that this post is not that intermittent fasting does not work. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I am saying that it is not the best way for women to lose weight because women’s hormones will always suffer. Women cannot lose weight when underlying stress is not addressed.
