The holidays amplify our emotions—loss, grief, sadness, and joy—prompting deep reflections on what could have been and what we might have done differently. Returning home to Jamaica often heightens these feelings, especially after laying a family member to rest. This morning, as I sipped my tea, I found myself thinking how frequently I used the phrase "I thought..."—realizing it often comes too late.......
Coming home, I thought .....
"I thought I would have the opportunity to witness the sparkle in my sister's eyes when she met my children and husband for the first time."
"I thought I would have another Christmas with my second-born sibling, sharing juicy stories from our family's history while preparing authentic jamaican cuisine."
"I thought I would have the chance for meaningful conversations about meditation and Hinduism with my brother."
" I thought I would have the chance to cultivate a bond with my sister-in-law."
I thought... they would be here with me just a little while longer....
