FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION 101
Functional nutrition is a holistic approach to what we eat based on the natural, synergistic, interconnectedness of the body's multiple systems, aimed at optimizing health, healing and longevity. Here are the very basics to consider:
Avoid:
+Highly processed foods (i.e. anything packaged with unidentifiable ingredients. If you don’t know what it is, it is highly processed).
+Sugar. Check the grams. Try to keep daily intake of all sugar below 25g.
+Sugar substitutes. Studies have shown sugar substitutes alter blood glucose, damage the microbiome of the gut, are addictive and are linked to mood disorders, weight gain, cardiovascular disease, cancers, diabetes and more.
+Refined carbohydrates. Refined carbohydrates are those that have had their natural fiber and nutrients removed during processing, resulting in foods like white bread, pasta, and pastries, which are often lower in nutrients and can cause rapid spikes in blood sugar.
+Alcohol

+Whole, nutrient dense foods
+Fresh, unprocessed foods
+Vegetables, fruits, lean proteins
+Try for organic veggies and fruit
+Organic, grass fed, pasture raised eggs and meat
