On My Mind - Caregiver Transportation Available?

I have received client referrals in the past from Plymouth Harbor at Sarasota Bay and others because their on-site home care agency does not allow their employees to drive clients. It was on my mind today to wonder if people ever ask about this issue in their search to hire a home health agency. If not, you probably should.

So, what are the issues? Why would a caregiver NOT be allowed to drive your loved one to a doctor appointment or grocery store or maybe even their favorite hair salon or concert?

It comes down to the complicated issue of road exposure and transportation liability. Non-owned auto liability insurance - the agency doesn't have it if their employees are not allowed to drive clients. So, what is this insurance? Non-owned auto liability insurance is a liability insurance that covers a vehicle not owned by the agency, once the limits of the vehicle owner's auto liability insurance has been met and/or exceeded. It can be expensive to buy since many insurers consider the home health industry to have high risk exposure.

My advice to you is pick an agency that maintains non-owned auto liability insurance in their portfolio of liability insurances because this agency not only cares about its employees and clients, but it will be able to provide the best overall bundle of services available to your loved one.
