Don’t quit doing what you love!

Don’t stop running just because your knees have been giving you trouble
Don’t stop squatting just because you have a herniated disc
Don’t stop your sport just because you hurt your shoulder
There are so many controllable variables that lead to injury - which means there’s just as many that can lead to your recovery!
Fix your form, eat healthy, SLEEP, hydrate, manage stress, build a better foundation!

I remember my knee surgeon telling me at 13 to never squat past 90 again - what stupid advice! I still had years of playing ball left and now as a mother playing with my kids or picking them up off the floor I couldn’t imagine how hard life would be if I had listened to that ridiculous instruction 🤣

Of course there are some instances where certain activities and injuries may have dire consequences but those are the exemptions.

For most of you- don’t stop doing what you love because of a set back or a struggle! It’s my mission to help people navigate the process to stay in it as best as they can!

What makes KFixPT different
No offense to granny 👵🏼, and no offense to her PT. But you know what I’m talking about- you hear physical therapy and picture a bunch of miserable 🥴 people laying on hot packs, peddling a recumbent bike, and doing the same low level exercises every day 3 times a week for 6 weeks.
This is NOT what KFix PT is about. That approach may be fine for some and may be just what some people need and that’s great 🫡
But I’m here to serve the rest of you. The ones who want more in their experience. The ones who value their health and their physical performance. The ones who didn’t get better at Granny’s PT clinic. The ones who want to get better quicker and value their time ⏰. The ones who don’t want to stop working out, running, or playing their sport 🏋🏻🤸🏼‍♀️🏌🏼‍♂️. The ones who want to learn something new about their bodies each and every session so that they go on to be more independent and capable of managing their health longterm 😃

Hear me out. If you are not a competitor you have no business doing the same type of exercise all year around. You need to be switching up something in your training regimen 2-4 times a year. Why am I saying this? Because no one form of exercise is really the gold standard and if they claim to be, they just want your money 🤷🏼‍♀️ There are so many aspects to function and fitness and I see too many people with holes in their routine.

I’m not saying you need a new gym membership every 6 months 💸. By all means if you love something- do it and stick with it! But you need to be spending a couple of days a week challenging your body and stepping outside of your comfort zone at least a few consecutive weeks out of the year, preferably something different every quarter. I personally love doing my own thing in the gym lifting weights. But that form of training doesn’t cover aspect of fitness and function. Every once in a while I go on a mobility kick or incorporate more cardio ☠️

If you’re competing that’s a bit of a different story because to be great at something you have to specialize in it. But for those of you simply seeking health, fitness, longevity, and staying in shape - time to mix it up! 🔥🔥

“My MRI results show I have a herniated disc and that’s why I have back pain”

I’ve heard this so many times, and while sometimes it’s true that the severity of a disc herniation contributes to back pain, here are some fast facts that should convince you to stop hating on herniated discs so much.

One thing to consider is mri only tells a part of the story and sometimes you will find ‘abnormalities’ that mean absolutely nothing when it comes to function and pain. Research on imaging has actually revealed that there’s a fair amount of people even in their 20s with disc changes (degeneration, height loss, protrusion). >50% of those in their 30s have asymptomatic (no pain) disc degeneration. Basically we age on the inside similar to how we age on the outside 👴🏼👵🏼

So what about those who have symptoms? Well unless you’re having major nerve or spinal cord issues your MD will probably send you to PT (hopefully!) or worst case they will tell you to stop doing _____ and take ____ pill or shot 🥴. PTs are the movement experts, so let us worry about what you should and shouldn’t be doing as far as activity.

Instead of worrying about having a herniated disc or other signs of spinal degeneration, we can focus on how you move, what’s going on above and below the area of pain, and more to get to the REAL reason you’re body is telling you something isn’t right by telling you it’s ’in pain’.

I feel like recreational athletes and the everyday individuals really get the short end of the stick when it comes to healthcare and injury.

I’ve seen SO many people come in frustrated after taking ‘2 weeks off to rest’ multiple times and their pain keeps coming back worse and worse each time they go back to their sport or activity.

Rest definitely works the majority of the time to get rid of pain- but if you don’t solve the root of the problem, if you don’t address the WHY behind the injury- it will come right back and you will be trapped in this cycle until you give up what you love all together and/or have to resort to injections/surgery. Its easy to tell someone to just rest or just stop playing ___ 5 times a week. But why should you have to give up something that makes you happy and keeps you active?
