On August 28, Lakehouse West Independent Retirement Community and Assisted Living Community celebrated birthdays of residents that have achieved a great milestone- 100 & 100 plus years in 2025! We enjoyed cocktails and cake along with great entertainment provided by Larry Breidenbach! Residents at Lakehouse West regularly share their experiences, expertise and talents with the Lakehouse West community. Resident Joan Rubinstein contributes a monthly "Great Composers Lecture Series". This month's topic is Jean Sibelius. He was a French Composer of late Romantic and early modern periods. He is widely regarded as his country's greatest composer. Joan is a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Music and Violin Pedology. She taught Music History and Appreciation at the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts.

Book Author Talk: “Mahjongg and Murder” A Catskill Mystery by author Lynne Bernfield at Lakehouse West.

The story takes place in 1956 at a Bungalow Colony in the famous Catskill mountains, where Lily, Syd, Ruthie, Mary and their families have spent the last 5 summers. But this summer in addition to the usual household chores, attending day camp activities and of course playing Mahjongg, they will have to protect the innocent victims of N**i Germany, catch a thief and expose a murderer!
