As we wrap up 2024 and look ahead to 2025, I feel compelled to share this.
This isn’t about complaining—it’s about confronting the reality many families face.
We are a family of small business owners with teens growing into young adults and preparing for college. Like so many of you, we work hard to make ends meet, but here’s the truth: 25-30% of our household income goes straight to insurance—car, homeowners, health, life, and who knows what else. On top of that, we’re paying taxes—federal, state, income, sales, and more. Together, 40-50% of our income is gone before we can invest in our future or even breathe a little easier.
As small business owners, we naturally think about return on investment (ROI). For taxes, I can see some ROI: public services, infrastructure, schools, and public welfare/social security. Even though, as a middle-aged couple, we’re not holding our breath about social security, I can’t complain too much about the services we do receive.
But when it comes to insurance, I can’t help but ask: What are we really getting in return?
Yes, we can call customer service, but do they truly care about us—their loyal, paying customers? It often feels like they only take and rarely give back. They raise prices year after year, backed by powerful lobbyists who use our money to protect their interests.
What happened to the idea that “the customer is always right”? Or that businesses should treat their best customers with the best service? None of these principles seem to apply to insurance companies. Why is that?
So why am I posting this? Because this needs to change.
If you agree with me, please share this post. Let’s make this a conversation, because I believe we need real solutions in 2025:
Capping how much insurance companies can charge individuals over a lifetime.
Limiting the salaries of top insurance executives.
Setting boundaries on how much companies can spend on entertainment and non-essential activities.
The system needs to work for us, not just for them.
From my family to yours—my wife and I, small business owners who also sell natural health products like vitamins and supplements—we want to wish you all a Happy New Year in 2025. Let’s make it a year of meaningful change.
