❤️ Are you 50 years or older with a confirmed diagnosis of moderate calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS)?

You may be eligible to participate in a new clinical study with Sarasota Memorial's Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute, aimed at evaluating whether Ataciguat, an investigational medication, can slow the buildup of calcium in the aortic valve in adults with moderate CAVS.

Led locally by interventional cardiologist Ricardo Yaryura, MD, the study will also assess the safety, tolerability and metabolism of the medication — how it is processed in the body.

💙🙌 SMH is proud to be among the first wave of hospitals in the nation to offer renal denervation — a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for people whose high blood pressure hasn’t responded to medications or lifestyle therapies.

On Dec. 30, Sarasota retiree Donald Fagan, 73, became the first patient to receive the catheter-based treatment at SMH after years of managing hypertension with multiple medications, exercise and other lifestyle efforts. He went home the same day — feeling better almost immediately — he even paused to celebrate with interventional cardiologist Jeffrey Rossi, MD, and members of the team along the way!

✨ By the next day, his blood pressure had dropped significantly. “That was exactly what we were hoping for. Hopefully, it’s a good sign for the year ahead,” Fagan shared.

🎉 👶 It’s a boy!! Congratulations to Corey Gifford and William Zimmerman, proud parents to the first of the new year: Zaiden Amaris Zimmerman, affectionately known as Zaz!! Their precious baby boy arrived at 12:50 am, Jan. 1, 2026, at SMH-Venice!!

💬 “It’s funny because my brother was the first baby of the year at Sarasota Memorial 14 years ago,” William said with a laugh.

🎉 And congrats to Isabel Castillo and Austin Gordon, their sweet baby boy, Austin Gordon Jr., known as “AJ,” was the first SMH-Sarasota baby of the new year, born at 1:25 am!
