✨ 🎶 At Sarasota Memorial, we’re exploring innovative ways to heal beyond medicine — and the power of music is showing real promise!

A new research study led by SMH’s Integrative Care Program, Rehabilitation and ICU teams — in collaboration with the Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute — is investigating how music can improve patient behaviors, enhance outcomes and reduce the risk of adverse events in the ICU.

Reaching a key milestone, the team has now enrolled half of the study sample, with preliminary findings pointing toward music as a powerful tool for healing.

💙 Sarasota Memorial’s Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute is offering a new clinical trial studying an innovative treatment option for people with benign thyroid nodules (BTNs).

Led locally by principal investigator Ralph P. Tufano, MD, MBA, FACS, thyroid/parathyroid specialist with Sarasota Memorial’s Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute and First Physicians Group, the multicenter PRECISE-BTN study is testing the clinical and quality-of-life benefits of Pulse Biosciences’ Nanosecond Pulsed Field Ablation (nsPFA) technology to treat non-cancerous thyroid nodules.

💬 “The objective of this multicenter clinical study is to continue to build clinical evidence in support of this patient-friendly procedure by showing we can safely reduce the debilitating symptoms caused by BTNs while preserving thyroid function and avoiding complete thyroid removal,” said Dr. Tufano.

A new study published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine shows that participants who joined the SMH RENEW Program (Restore and Empower through Nutrition, Exercise & Wellness) experienced life-changing results, including a healthier weight, reduced blood pressure, better quality of life, and more.

🎉 We're thrilled to share that Sarasota Memorial thyroid/parathyroid specialist Ralph P. Tufano, MD, MBA, FACS, has been recognized among a panel of leading medical experts who issued the new 2025 American Thyroid Association Management Guidelines for Adult Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Cancer.

Dr. Tufano, director of the SMH/FPG Thyroid and Parathyroid Center and physician leader with the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute and Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute, collaborated with a national task force for the past five years to update the guidelines.
