Gently stroll through nature's sauna to sweat out the stress and reset your nervous system on an eco-adventure in Oscar Scherer State Park.

The Summer Sizzle is a series of 3 mini vortex tours-customized for hurricane season. It starts with a 15 minute hike along South Creek, then 15 minutes of yoga under a 100 year old oak tree, building up to the highlight-a guided vortex meditation, and integration then, hiking back to the nature center.

**Optional** Bring your bathing suit if you want to extend the adventure and cool off with a swim in Lake Osprey.

Summer Sizzle is a series of 3 community vortex tours for locals only! The Sizzle is a shorter (90 minute) version of the full (2.5 hour) vortex tour with special pricing (60% off!) for locals in the rainy season. It starts with a 15 minute hike along South creek, then 15 minutes of yoga under a 100 year old oak tree, building up to the highlight-a guided vortex meditation, and hiking back to the nature center.

Step-by-step directions:
Drive 1 mile on the main road. Past the South Picnic Area and past the Campground.
Slight right at the sign that says "Lake Osprey Picnic Area"
Park anywhere in the loop and look for the group under a picnic shelter near the nature center.

How to Dress and What to bring:
Your guide will carry a full first aid kit and *emergency*water. Please plan ahead and take personal responsibility for the day's temperature and humidity conditions. Dress for exercising; Carry your own Water (minimum 2 bottles / 34 oz. / 1 liter); Wear Closed toe shoes; Use Sun Protection (hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, sunscreen); and bring any other essentials you need for your individual health and comfort (epi-pen, inhaler, medication, snacks, fans, misters, walking poles/sticks, collapsible chair,

I try to put people at ease by saying you will rarely see an alligator in the back country trails at Myakka because they like to stay closer to the river. However, after this encounter I can't say never! On this day I turned around and found another trail to enjoy.

The Myakka River is 14 ft high inside the state park! That's about 13 ft higher than it was 2 months ago. We're on track for a deeply saturating wet season in Sarasota County. And that's good because that's what the landscape wants to do.

The good news is the two trails I checked out are still dry and accessible and Vortex tours are available! The air is full of the sounds of summer like cicadas and limpkin. The hammocks are full of wildlife that seem to be getting pushed closer to the trail where it is not wet.

Resurrection Ferns rise after the rain. I love this plant 1) because it's a rebel who grows in the air rather than the soil, and 2) it figuratively comes back to life after dry spells! When you spot it tall and green and erect in the wild, it means that it's seen rain in the past day or two. Sometimes the signs of nature are easy to read. Every other day, we walk like a shaman and listen to the whispers in our heart.

Field Trip season! Tar Flower was the shining star of the morning hike at the annual meeting of the Florida Society of Ethical Ecotourism. Their lightly scented blossoms crowned the scrub at Jonathan Dickerson State Park. The plant's name comes from their carnivorous nature that traps insects in their sticky petals. Could have fooled me!

Florida SEE certification is a mark of distinction for ecotour operators to demonstrate a commitment to ethical practices and leadership in sustainability. We're currently working on documenting our operations. Stay tuned for more updates!
