Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind

Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind BAAB is a non-profit organization that is committed to serve those with vision loss in Brevard County, FL.

We are available to help you by appointment, so please give us a call or email today. Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind (BAAB) was founded in 1966. We are a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers and funded by donations. Our recording department currently records 3 magazines for national distribution by the Library of Congress through the talking books library. We also have a Program for Independent Living which is offered 3 times a year to adults with varying degrees of vision loss. The goal of this program is to enable our students to stay in their homes as long as possible without having to hire outside help. They learn how to arrange their rooms to get around them easily, how to label and organize, and how to develop their other senses among other things. We also have guest speakers from various agencies including Satellite Beach Fire Dept., Brevard County Sheriff's Office, The Talking Book Library in Cocoa, Space Coast Area Transit, SHINE, and CVI. Countless people have benefitted from both programs over the years.

🌷🥚 Beep and Seek Egg Hunt 🥚🌷

Beep and Seek Egg Hunt is a fun, inclusive egg hunt designed especially for members of our community with low or no vision. Instead of searching by sight, participants will follow the sound of beeping eggs to find their treasures! 🔊✨

This event is all about accessibility, inclusion, and making sure everyone gets to experience the joy of an egg hunt in a way that works for them. Smiles are guaranteed and memories will be made!💛

Along with our beloved Coffee Talk this morning, BAAB was lucky enough to be given two donations by a member of the Satellite Beach Lion's Club!

One of our regulars at Coffee Talk, Mr. Gary, was able to take one of them home today and he was so ecstatic! We showed him how to set it up and how to operate it, so that he felt confident in doing so when he got it home.

Every donation is a reason for celebration, as it means that one of our clients gets to experience what is capable with accessibly technology.

We also had a couple stop in during Coffee Talk that happened to be told about BAAB by the pharmacist at a nearby Publix. They were such a kind couple and we are so happy that we were able to help them out today with setting up some accessible tools on their smart device!

Thank you to the pharmacist at Publix for pointing them in our direction!

It was truly a wonderful day at BAAB 💙!!

🩵Our hearts are so full after the amazing craft event we hosted at our office last Friday!

With the incredible support of the students from Keiser University Melbourne 🎓, we spent the day creating handmade scented pouches filled with care, creativity, and community spirit.🪻🌹

From selecting the perfect scents to carefully tying each pouch, every detail was made with love. The room was filled with laughter, teamwork, and joy. We are so grateful to the Keiser students who volunteered their time to make this event such a success.

🫂Moments like these remind us that when a community comes together, beautiful things happen one handmade pouch at a time. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this special day. We can’t wait for the next one!✨

🤓Did you know that February is AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) and low vision awareness month? 🤓

🕶️AMD is the leading cause of permanent impairment of reading and fine-detail vision among people aged 60 and older. 👓

A low vision diagnosis can come at any age, in fact, nearly 500,000 Americans are newly diagnosed with low vision annually. Though low vision is more common as you age, it can affect children and young adults, as well.

BAAB is here as a free resource to those in need of community, guidance, and independence. Every single Thursday we host a social event at our office in Satellite Beach. We provide refreshments (coffee, water, tea, donuts, etc.) and a safe place to spend time with people that are going through similar struggles as you. Everyone is welcome, caregivers/friends/family of people with vision loss are encouraged to attend!

📚We also provide a program called, Program for Independent Living, multiple times throughout the year📅. In these classes we help our students (of all ages) gain confidence and independence through teaching various valuable daily skills. ⌨️📲
