The Ranch - TFL UPDATE

Things are moving along very quickly.

Thanks to the generosity of so many of you and the success of our golf tournament, we raised enough funds to meet the ”match donations'' offered by The Big T Foundation/Force for Good as well as The Hubbard Foundation ~ big names in philanthropy. We’ve been blessed.

We exceeded the $350k goal for construction costs. Construction on The Ranch Branch is underway and slated for completion this spring. In addition, all 18 rooms have all been adopted by individuals. Amazing! We continue to raise money for the operations of The Ranch and to pay for resources offered through The Nest.

The Ranch is currently running a brick campaign for a commemorative sidewalk around the building. This will be an on-going campaign with plans for a brick oven in the future.

This holiday season, we will auction off one more of the limited edition Pavelich jerseys signed by his beloved 1980 Olympic Teammates after Mark’s death. Bids will be taken soon.

A bronze statue of Pav and an unnamed soldier standing side-by-side & holding an American flag between them has been ordered. Donated by The Big T Foundation, this statue will stand at the entry of the 100-acre property in Sauk Center, Minnesota.

In Mark’s humbleness he would not want the statue to be about him. Not at all. Rather, it’s a symbol of unity, brotherhood, and loyalty between hockey and heroes.

The second annual Pavelich Ranch Golf Tournament was another huge success this year, grossing slightly over $100k. It was an amazing day with friends and family coming from all over to celebrate Mark’s life and to support others who struggle with mental illness.

Many big hockey names were on the list of attendees and of course, Mark’s Veteran Family came to show their support and to help with the event. The entire group, Ranch Board members included, had just come from The Nest Fest, The Nest’s biggest summer celebration. Following that we hustled to the Cities for our Tournament’s Meet and Greet.

Jordan Leopold, former Minnesota Gopher and NHL defenseman, donated the use of his gorgeous Mississippi River Gardens the evening prior to golf to thank the tournament’s major sponsors. Jordan, Clint Malarchuk, TJ Gorence, Paul Martin, Buzzy Schneider, and Pat Micheletti mingled with the supporters, then legendary Chuck Grillo got up to share heartwarming stories of Pav. Clint, Melony Butler, Mark Wick, Guy LaBlanc and Jack Pavelich then said a few words about The Ranch and our cause.

The next day was gorgeous for golfing or for just buzzing around in a cart visiting with golfers while handing out a cold Hamm’s Beer, Mark’s favorite (Shunka. Yes, they still make the stuff).

Afterward, golfers grabbed a bite to eat and eyeballed the auction items. Not everyone can say they witnessed a former NHL goalie and current Cowboy jump up during a silent auction and take over as the auctioneer. The Ranch’s beloved Vice President, Clint Malarchuk, did just that and had everyone laughing...then crying...while he thanked supporters for their love and compassion in “helping guys like me”. Our respected partner, Paul Martin’s Shine A Ligh7 Foundation, will receive $25k for their mental health program of using music as therapy for struggling school children. Pav’s two loves were music and kids. The Ranch looks forward to continuing a relationship with this great organization.
The remaining money will go towards the remodel of The Ranch’s building at The Eagle’s Healing Nest in beautiful Sauk Centre, Minnesota. We are able to meet our first $60k down payment for our contractors and we plan to have the building up and ready for those in need by the spring of 2023. In the meantime, The Nest is housing our placements.

A huge thank you to all who supported this tournament and to our Golf Committee for devoting their precious time to making this another success: Mark Wick, Ronn Thomassoni, Elise Starr, Guy, Paula, and Wade Lablanc, Francine Bonach and Amy Pocrnich.

We’re getting closer to fulfilling The Dream.

Former NY Ranger Captain Barry Beck, also board member of traveling all the way from Hong Kong will be a part of the NY Rangers Alumni Golf Tournament and will be presenting in the Annual Rangers Meeting prior to the Golf Outing on September 21st.

Nest Fest was a great success raising over $30k for the Eagles Nest. Along the way we met many veterans along with so many of the volunteers from the local region who already support The Nest. Lots and lots of visitors gathered to hear the stories, visit the site, bid on their favorite crafts, enjoy the fruits of the vets cantina - cooking non-stop from 9am to 6pm. Dampened only slightly by a 45 minute rain which cooled things off a little bit, Clint and Jason shared their journeys with mental illness to the crowd, illustrating that even in the midst of their internal struggles, healing can take place.

For some, it was their first visit to The Nest. They shall be forever changed by what they saw and heard here.

Today, we work the Nest Fest -- one of 2 fund raisers done by The Nest each year. Gonna set up The Ranch booth in an hour or so and we'll take part in the festivities of the day, highlightd by a a talk by Clint Malarchuk and Jason DeShaw. Photos of the Ranch ( a work in progress)
