Using Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) regularly will promote a rebalancing of the nervous system and other body systems. This can help alleviate many symptoms that are caused by chronic or traumatic stress, or nervous system disorders such as:

muscle pain

tension headaches

poor sleep

tinnitus

dizziness

anxiety

dissociation

numbness

lack of social engagement

resting tremors

poor digestion

poor blood pressure

poor insulin level control

poor immune function.

I have had good success in patients with significant emotional dysregulation or dissociation, such as in those with Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures. People with autoimmune disorders and Parkinson’s disease may see a decrease in symptoms as their stress levels drop and the nervous system comes into balance.

Consider bottom-up approaches to mental health. These are physical practices that tap into the mind-body connection. Doing things that mindfully release holding patterns in the structure of the body will have a quieting effect on the nervous system. This in turn helps the fight/flight areas of the brain to calm and new patterns of thought to be able to take place.
