⚠️ Sensitivity Notice: Surgical Content
This 82-year-old patient underwent Mohs micrographic surgery to treat a recurrent basal cell carcinoma on the right temple. The cancer was fully removed in three stages, allowing for meticulous margin control while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
Once the tumor was cleared, the final defect measured 4.6 × 5.5 cm—a large and complex area, particularly given its facial location. Dr. Decker performed immediate reconstruction using an advancement flap with M-plasty, carefully designing the repair to follow natural facial contours and support optimal healing over time.
Six months later, the incision is barely visible. This outcome reflects the power of Mohs surgery paired with expert reconstruction. Fellowship training, experience, and an aesthetic eye play a critical role, not only in curing skin cancer, but in how patients heal, age, and feel long after surgery.
