…a very particular set of skills

This is so good it feels like cheating.
If you get that achy feeling between the shoulder blades, reach for the Uttana Shishosana, or Puppy Dog Pose. It is super helpful on the fly if you modify it for quick-access.
Usually it’s practiced low to the ground with the shins on the floor or mat, arms outstretched forward, while arching the spine downward…picture a puppy wanting to play with its toy.

But just grab the closest wall arms-distance & shoulder-height, then up a little & back a little. Inhale the exhale deeply as you press hips back & pits down at a 45 degree angle. Inhale as you rise & feel the instant upper tension relief + mild jolt of energy.
One of my daily go-to moves when no one is looking. ✌🏼

As a racehorse is galloping across the back stretch, it inhales each time its hooves lift, & it exhales each time it powers through a stride…each breath linked to a movement. Each movement is intimately linked to the breath for maximum efficiency, using the body’s natural expansions and contractions to conserve energy where it might otherwise expend extra energy to breathe & keep up with the oxygen demands. Humans get so caught up in day to day bu****it that we have actually forgotten how to breathe like we were meant to breathe. Join me to explore ways to reconnect with your breath

Drishti, or ‘focused gaze’ is a simple yogic technique with many benefits on many levels. A big physical benefit is helping to improve our balance by giving our minds a fixed anchor point to use as reference while our bodies wobble & try to stay centered. If you want to try it just start small…pick a spot on the wall, stand on one foot, & try to stay laser-focused on that fixed spot. Don’t forget to breathe!
Just playing around with it for a few minutes might unlock a new level of balance that you didn’t know you had!

Ujjayi, or victorious breath can help raise body temperature when you’re cold, draw your focus in a little narrower when you’re getting spacey, and even boost your energy levels. Can be done anywhere & anytime. Go slow at first & don’t constrict too forcefully. Be gentle. ✌🏼🤙🏼💜🙏🏻

I chose to try yoga teacher training purely for myself. I knew there was more to Yoga than I could learn in one-hour public classes, & I thought it might be able to help bring balance mentally as it had for me physically on the mat. During training, the book Health, Healing, and Beyond, by T.K.V. Desikachar was the first book I chose from the reading list, & when I came across this passage, I knew all of those months and years I spent gaining this knowledge wasn’t just for me. I knew there is something I have that specifically qualifies me to continue studying and training so that I can share these things that can help other people in their everyday lives.
“I can care.”
