“The Christmas Blues”(BTW this is not a song title)
Why? What to do?
Why is it that the holidays make feel sad instead of all that cheer that media tells you?
The truth is that you start your life out, going through the holidays with a manufactured sense of magic. As a child, you were surrounded by people that loved you unconditionally and devoted this time of the year to make you feel loved and special. As families grow and move away, as our elders pass on, this time of the year is a painful reminder that that magic may never come back. But that is only if you decide that you want to continue looking back instead of forward. If the traditions of the past cannot be recreated, be imaginative , and start new traditions. Don’t make this holiday about shopping or packing your schedule to the point of stress. Do less, love more and volunteer where you can.. I miss and remember the most during Christmas is being in thekitchen with my grandmother and my mother, making our favorite dishes, cookies, and cupcakes. I am so happy I had the parents I did because they helped me figure out how to make my son remember this time and our time together. Carl and I would make cookies and cakes to take to the Hospital where I worked many years ago. I know that Carl remembers US! He still does this where he lives.
Love on your children, love on your neighbor, love on a stranger.
I am not telling you that you’re not gonna stop missing those that are no longer around us or that are far away, but it certainly will give you great comfort happy holidays!
