🌱 Sometimes life hands a child an adult-sized backpack—filled with little brothers, dirty dishes, and emotions that were never hers to sort. Years later she might look at that weight and say, “I shouldn’t have carried this.” And she would be right.

Yet I’ve learned that backpacks are sewn together long before they land on our shoulders. My own was stitched by a father who faced horrors I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and by a young mother who was still a teenager herself, trying to outrun shame she never earned. They weren’t villains; they were wounded wanderers doing the best they could with broken maps.

Depression, anxiety, numbness—those invisible storms can turn even the gentlest soul into a stranger. Some of us became caretakers too soon; others withdrew behind thick, silent walls. But every branch of the family tree tells the same whispered truth: We were all little once, reaching for comfort that wasn’t there.

Healing begins when we loosen our grip on the question “What should have happened?” and ask instead, “What can grow from here?” Not to excuse harm, but to release ourselves from carrying it forward. Forgiveness isn’t forgetting; it’s letting tomorrow be lighter than yesterday.

So if you stumble across these words and feel an old ache stir—please know this: your story is valid, your hurt is seen, and your freedom is waiting.
