Covid Note 2/6/22: When the deadly Wuhan Plague emerged from its crypt in early 2020, I was an aging physician, continuing to practice General Internal Medicine, as I had done for many years. It has been part of the meaning and gratification of my life. On hearing about Covid early on, it was abundantly clear to me that this was a challenge of unprecedented magnitude. I read all I could, mostly case reports and pathology findings emanating from China. I also read early on of successful treatment with two simple drugs, in common use in Medicine for decades: Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin. Some physicians promoted use of Hydroxychloroquine for Covid prophylaxis. Along with hundreds of thousands of American soldiers, I had taken Chloroquine, a drug nearly identical to HCQ, for thirteen months during deployment to Vietnam in order to avert a deadly form of malaria. No one, to my knowledge, ever took ill or died from use of Chloroquine in years of use in Vietnam. Though hard to get In February of 2020, I prescribed the medication to my employees, my wife, and myself. When told to follow the lockdown strategy, formulated by our Chinese Covid “benefactors,” I refused to close my office. I had never in my entire professional life refused to treat a sick patient, face to face. We gowned, masked, gloved, washed hands, and cleaned surfaces like maniacs, but shut down? No. Did not happen. Also, in February of 2020,I posed myself a simple question: “How am I going to treat these sick people when they call!” Also, “what kind of testing will be available?” Based on years of experience treating patients with Acute Respiratory Disease syndromes, I wrote my own Covid 19 Treatment Protocol. It contained six medications, including solumedrol, a low dose corticosteroid. It was apparent to me, after my early investigation, that Covid 19 is a two phase disease, a short Infectious Phase, like influenza, followed by a protracted period of severe respiratory decline clearly promoted by the individual’s immune response. People with a lifetime’s accumulation of antibodies to coronaviruses faired worse than younger people with fewer previous infections with this bug. It killed the infirm elderly and spared the productive young! What a great way to divest the world of costly, nonproductive people, if you were a political power broker seeking to cleanse the world. Did something like that not happen? What a great way to disrupt the entire socio-economic fabric of like on Earth, if you were a power broker so inclined? And if a hand full of stubborn doctors discovered safe and inexpensive drugs to treat this disease effectively, would you not go to great lengths to prevent them from doing so, if you were a power broker so inclined? Well, I am happy to report that I am still alive and well enough to continue prescribing a Covid 19 Treatment Protocol, as well as a preventative program, for those seeking my assistance, despite some feeble efforts on the part of weenies to shut me down. As for the vast mob of toads who regrettably infest the American medical community, screw you all who abandoned your calling in such a cowardly way.
