City, Partners to Provide Spaces to Stay Cool Monday, July 28

SAVANNAH – With heat index values potentially reaching 115 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), the City of Savannah and partner agencies are making facilities available to help residents stay cool.
A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service NWS and will be in effect from until 8 PM this evening.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when possible.

Equine heat safety ordinance:
The City of Savannah is also actively enforcing equine heat safety ordinances which impact several local tour companies. When the heat index exceeds 110 degrees (or when the actual temperature reaches 95 degrees), horse-drawn carriages shall not be allowed to operate on City streets. Horses can either be kept at their stands to keep cool or return to their stables if they can safely do so. The Office of Special Events, Film, and Tourism enforces these rules and all local horse carriage tour businesses have received reminders of the rules.

🌟 A huge THANK YOU to our incredible community partner and Supported Employment employer - the City of Savannah! 🌟

Kenneth, one of EmployAbility’s longest-working Supported Employment participants, has proudly worked for the City of Savannah for 29 years! He tells us, “I love working for the city.” And it shows.

From cutting grass and picking up debris to raking dugouts and setting up for games and events - like this week’s Banana Ball Youth Tournament with the Savannah Bananas- Kenneth keeps the ballpark in top shape!

We’re so proud of Kenneth and grateful for the City of Savannah’s continued commitment to inclusion and opportunity.

Huge thank you to the Savannah Police Department and Savannah Fire Department for joining us at Bringing the Badge: A Community Awareness Event! Our participants had an incredible time meeting the officers and firefighters, learning about the important work they do, and exploring the emergency vehicles up close. Events like this help build trust, create meaningful connections, and promote disability awareness within our community and among first responders.
