2010—> 2023

33 vs 46

Pre dietary shift vs post

Eating well but not thinking about nutrient density vs paying attention consistently, focusing on protein and still enjoying food and life while not eating the foods that were wrecking my digestion and keeping me low-grade unwell all the time.

A lot less alcohol ***More sleep *** Lifting heavy weights instead of just doing the occasional jog and gym sesh whenever in port and time allowed.

Weight? I think back then I was usually 110-112 # (50kg) vs 118-120 (54kg) now and cool with weighing more as I keep getting stronger

I wonder what that 33 year old would think if she could see me now? I like to think I would be making her proud and blowing her mind with all the possibilities 🔥🔥

I’ve been tracking sleep for over a year now and working on sleep quality. Aiming for 7-9 hours a night and when I get there, I feel so much better

How is your sleep?

One of the things I learned in school to become an NTP is how to read research. One of the examples that was used in school was how unreliable observational and dietary recall studies are but they get used to inform public policy.

In this case: meat causing cancers and diseases has never adjusted for what kind of meat. (Grass-fed beef, wild caught fish…or processed meats full of additives?) or other lifestyle factors. (Are meat eaters more likely to smoke, drink and not exercise?)

Looks like what I was learning 6-7 years ago is now coming to light publically

Studies have been linking red meat consumption to health problems like heart disease, stroke, and cancer for years. But nestled in the recesses of those published papers are notable limitations. Nearl

Big Veganism is a corporate money grab disguised as “more ethical” and “climate friendly”

Already, NZ is imposing a fart tax on farmers who raise GRASSFED sheep and cows. animals on land too marginal to grow crops who help sequester carbon. Instead, they will plant non-native pine trees so corporations like IKEA can offset their carbon footprint destroying native range species that previously have been able to live and thrive on that rangeland….

The stuff going on in the Netherlands is another side to this corporate mess.

On the health side of the equation: if we all end up living off only wheat, soy and corn, the already bad obesity epidemic will be even worse. The current standard American diet of 60% processed food mainly comprised of refined grains and soy with inflammatory industrial seed oils and sugar already has the North American hovering at 75% overweight and over 42% obesity.

So why are we going to make it worse?

Every January and into February I like to do a Whole30 as a reset and “back to basics” promise to myself. Because it has been so many years I no longer view this as a challenge since most of the time I live close to this template anyway having found that the removal of alcohol, dairy, sweeteners and all grains/legumes is the fastest way for me to optimize my overall health.

Some people start a Whole30 and spend the entire month negatively thinking about “all the things I cannot have” and then afterwards they go eat All. The. Things. Having learned nothing of themselves and how individual foods impact the symptoms they used to experience. A better mindset would be: look at all these tasty and beneficial proteins, vegetables and fruit I am FINALLY eating in adequate amounts to support health. And you will know it is supporting your health once your daily symptoms start to go away (keeping a journal can be helpful as a reminder)

I have been snapping photos of some of my meals and posting them on IG stories. Thought it might be a good idea to share them here too. The scope and scale of what you can cook is vast. Make the foods tasty. Enjoy nourishing your body and revel in feeling good…and maybe you will begin to understand how much your body craves deep nourishment and wants to heal itself when given the tools to do so:

Nutrient dense meals. Good hydration. Good sleep. Sunshine. Daily movement. Community.

Carrying these things on the majority of the time the rest of the year will lead to better aging and better physical and mental health!!!

Event alert!!

On New Years Eve I am going to be cooking a dinner for Whipporwill Farms guests. It’s going to be tasty, and also gluten, dairy and nightshade free so people with sensitive tummies can feel confident that this will be a good, healthy choice!! Check out the link on their IG or at their website to book a ticket.

I am super stoked that they have asked me to do this since I buy my forest-raised pork and chicken from this farm weekly. They sincerely put heart and soul into regenerative farming.

Getting (smart) sun exposure on more than just your face and hands is critical for increasing vitamin D levels naturally.

Vitamin D is critical for healthy bones, good immune function, balancing hormones and prevention of certain cancers and other chronic diseases.

You can use a cool app called D Minder (no affiliate links) to help figure out how much you are making based on latitude, cloud cover, skin colour, time of day…it’s really neat!!!

Quick peak of the shed- over time collecting equipment has been one of the beat investments in myself. But you don’t need all this to start moving your body daily….just yourself and a little space will do!!

The human body thrives with movement. We sleep
better, our digestion works better, our mental state gets better, it reduces stress, helps make cells more sensitive to glucose, hormones signal better. Get started now!!!
