❄️ Sending out some warm wishes from our Sound Start kids!
Since 2007, Sound Start has been the region’s only auditory-verbal program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our goal? Not just to teach children to listen and speak—but to empower parents to continue that learning at home, every day. 🗣️💛

This is intensive, life-changing therapy. And it’s made possible only because of our community.

Today, we need your support to keep Sound Start thriving. Every gift helps children reach milestones, families gain confidence, and our program continue providing the only auditory-verbal therapy of its kind in the region.

👉 Please donate now if you can! Your gift changes lives!

🎨 We’re so proud! Our Speak Easy Stroke & TBI Survivors Group had a wonderful time participating once again in the 30th Annual Making Marks Exhibition at the Telfair Museum. Art has an incredible power to heal, connect, and restore confidence — and our survivors show that every single year.

We’re thrilled that our member, Mike Grant, was interviewed in this WTOC segment highlighting the exhibition. We’ll be sharing more photos from opening night and behind-the-scenes moments from our art-making sessions soon — stay tuned!

Art heals. Community heals. And we are honored to be part of it. 💛

The exhibition emphasizes inclusivity in art, welcoming participants regardless of age or abilities.

Are you ready to fully enjoy the holidays with the people you love? If you’ve ever found yourself missing parts of a conversation at a family gathering, struggling to hear your favorite holiday movie, or noticing your child having trouble listening in school, you’re not alone — and hearing loss may be part of the reason.

Most people think hearing loss only affects older adults, but that’s not true.
Here’s what we know:
• 37.5 million adults in the U.S. report some degree of hearing loss.
• 2–3 out of every 1,000 children are born with a detectable hearing loss.
• 1 in 5 teenagers now experience some level of hearing loss.

Hearing loss can affect anyone, at any age — and the holidays are the perfect time to make sure you and your family can hear every laugh, story, and song.

🎄 Let us help you check your insurance benefits before the new year!
Many plans reset in January, and we’re happy to confirm what’s covered.

🍂 Thankful for Learning Through Play! 🦃
This week at Sound Start, our little learners had a blast building listening, language, and early literacy skills through festive Thanksgiving fun!

✨ Hands-on Learning Highlights:
🧮 Turkey Feather Counting – numbers + colors
🥕 Feast Sorting – categories + descriptive language
👩‍🍳 Cooking Pretend Play – sequencing + expressive language
🦃 Turkey Waddle Game – listening + following directions

🗣 Along the way, we practiced fall vocabulary like thankful, feast, pumpkin, apple, share, family, pie, leaves, cook, and more!

📚 Favorite storytime reads included Bear Says Thanks, I Am Thankful, The Very First Thanksgiving Day, and Thanks for Thanksgiving—plus lots of turkey songs and giggles.

💛 Try it at home:
Talk about fall items you see, encourage short phrases (“red leaf,” “I stir!”), play simple listening games, and celebrate every new word your child uses.

🧡 At Sound Start, every moment of play builds listening + spoken language growth for our deaf and hard of hearing kiddos.
