📚✏️ First-day smiles at Sound Start! Our kids are back for a brand-new school year—ready to learn, play, and grow. 💜

🌟 What makes Sound Start so special? It’s an early intervention auditory-verbal program—and it’s completely free for every child who attends, thanks to the generosity of our community.

💜 At Sound Start, we focus on helping children who are deaf or hard of hearing develop independent communication through listening and speaking, while also nurturing pre-academic, pre-literacy, and social skills. Together, we’re building the strong foundation every child needs to thrive—in school and beyond.

💛 Want to support this life-changing program? Every gift to our Givebutter campaign helps keep Sound Start accessible for families:

💛👩‍⚕️ Welcome Back, Callie & Heather! 👩‍⚕️💛

We’re thrilled to welcome back OT Callie Hegland and (a belated) OT Heather Woodberry! Both recently very happily became moms, and we know their new perspectives bring an extra layer of insight and expertise to their work with children and families.

At Savannah Speech & Hearing, our pediatric occupational therapy is designed to feel like play—yet every activity is carefully chosen to build important skills, such as:
✔️ Fine motor development & hand coordination
✔️ Sensory processing & self-regulation
✔️ Visual-motor & perceptual skills
✔️ Feeding, grooming & self-care routines
✔️ Attention, executive functioning & social interaction
✔️ Participation in school, home & community routines

We’re so glad to have this amazing duo back in the Center, helping kids thrive! 🌟

🎧 The new school year is here—and so are our school hearing screenings!
Since the 1950s, Savannah Speech & Hearing Center has offered free hearing screenings in the community to help identify children with hearing loss and connect them to the help they need. Decades later, it’s still our mission—and still enabled by amazing volunteers.

A big thank-you to Garden City Elementary, Pulaski K-8, and Oglethorpe Charter School for welcoming us into your schools and hosting such well organized screenings.

If you’d like to help us in this important (and fun!) work, send us a message. Volunteers truly make all the difference!

We were honored to have David Premo join this morning’s Speak Easy group. In his TED Talk, David—a stroke survivor and founder of Articulate Aphasics Toastmasters—shares how the quote “If it is to be, it’s up to me” became a driving force in his recovery.

His online Toastmasters club is designed for people with aphasia or other neurological speech challenges, offering a supportive space to strengthen communication skills and build confidence.
