Let’s open a new door, a door to enlightenment and self awareness. So often I hear reflections like, “I am out of control,” “I need to control myself,” “I’m eating everything in sight,” “I need to be stronger.” 😵‍💫

Unfortunately, every one of these statements couldn’t be further from the truth. The cut and dry: the human body is designed for survival. The human body requires food to survive. If we do not fuel appropriately the body will question survival and therefore become metabolically defensive. Meaning, not only do we start to save stores of energy (fat mass), but we also start to instinctually COMPENSATE. Our brain literally signals us to “get it all while we can!” “Reach for the most energy rich (carbs) convenience (easy/fast) food quickly and get more and more.”

Our negative cycling food behaviors are not a product of our lack of self control, or will power. They are indeed a result of inconsistent fueling caused by our stressful and distracting world, oh and not to mention diet culture telling us not to eat.

So the next time you find yourself feeling “out of control with food,” ask yourself: “did I fuel well today? Or, am I simply having compensating behaviors for survival purposes?”

Why, yes…I am a dietitian and have not posted a single word about eating and the holidays. No one, and I mean no one, should tell you how to behave during the holidays, causing you to hyper-focus on yourself and food in negative ways. We so easily lose sight of what the holiday times are about and how they should be spent. Eat, taste, savor, slow down, smile, laugh, hug, cheers, love, thank, and give. These are the behaviors that matter most 🙏🏻 maybe if we can all begin to let go of our obsession with diet culture, being unrealistically smaller, being better, doing more (stress, stress, stress and then some more stress) maybe we won’t feel so out of control with food after all. Happy and grounded holidays folks! 🎄🌟🍾

We work with our clients to identify the two different voices that seem to be at war creating mental chaos - the rational/logical voice (a.k.a the recovery voice) and the irrational voice (a.k.a the disorder voice). We learn how to give more power and space to the logical thoughts. This requires trust. It is a beautiful process to watch as clients transform from fearing certain foods to treating all foods as safe, equal and yummy!

Coming in hot off maternity leave ready to bring you all more content about the atrocities of the diet culture we are immersed in! So many of my clients come to me as self diagnosed “sugar addicts” This couldn’t be further from the truth. We are designed to like sugar! Liking yummy sweet food is human nature! Our love and appreciation for sweet foods can quickly change when we innocently fall victim to the diet culture ways telling us these foods are bad and off limits. The scarcity mindset naturally sets off internal alarms making sure we get it all while we can before we “cut ourselves off for good.” Cue the impulsive binge behaviors that continue to cycle and reassure us that we have no control over sweets and therefore must be addicted and need to abstain.” 😵‍💫 Let’s fix this broken damaging cycle. Have your cake, eat it and BE HAPPY and HEALTHY all at the same time 🍰

You’ve heard of the 80/20 rule - weight loss is achieved with 80% focus on food and 20% focus on exercise. We are redefining this rule completely - our clients learn to put 80% focus on their mental health and 20% focus on their physical health related to food and exercise. This ratio is where the magic happens! You can’t diet and exercise yourself to a long term healthier you without improving your mental health and relationship with food first

Real talk. The mental turmoil you put yourself through about good vs. bad foods causes more harm than the food itself. Your body can handle anything you eat if we have the right behaviors with the food. All the negative self talk and bad food labeling we do affect our food behaviors and cause us to abuse foods in a way our body can not handle so well (weight gain, elevated blood sugar, digestive issues) - in the end affecting our goals and overall health. We help our clients find peace and neutrality with all types of food to normalize behaviors and reach their goals for good!

As you prepare for the holiday season, I want you to give yourself the most valuable present 🎁 - the gift of being present and enjoying every smile, hug, laugh, taste and sip! ❄️
Don’t let numbers, expectations, others’ perceived thoughts/opinions steal this from you. You never know who will be celebrating with you for the last time, or when you will see the people who matter most again.
⭐️
Don’t regret missing a moment because of diet culture! Avoid diet talk (internal and external) and any unrealistic New Years expectations that cause you to disregard your current behaviors.
🎄
The holiday is just another day that tastes better and feels merrier!

We don’t directly teach our clients how they should eat. We teach self-worth, self-care, forgiveness, flexibility, logic, permission and passion. When these characteristics are missing, food behaviors are directly impacted with destructive results. When we build up these elements there is a total transformation of health and wellness that begins to allow our clients to unlock their goals sustainably. Are you ready for a new system? Break free form the cycles that rob you of your health and spirit. Find freedom by finding and loving yourself first.

Double tap if you want to free yourself from the numbers!!

In our practice we do not focus on numbers. We do not do regular weight checks, or track calories/macros. Numbers take away from our intuitive ability to feel our body’s true needs and our true progress towards real health.

This topic came up quite a bit in sessions leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday. There is always so much talk about “earning food” and this is almost always influenced by a form of restriction - fasting, exercising before food, etc. The two things I hear most often are 1. I’m going to save my calories and fast all day so I can earn all the food at the gathering, or 2. I’m doing the holiday 5K so I can earn my food later. 🔸
Your body is SO confused by this! 🔸
First of all, food is a basic human need and does not require you to earn a single bite of it. When we put this connotation on food we tend to feel like we are doing something bad and this negative self talk encourages us to continue disordered food behaviors like skipping and stuffing throughout the WHOLE holiday season. 🔸
We need to change the conversation from earning to “using.” I encourage my clients to find a form of exercise they enjoy and plan it after a meal instead of before. Light exercise after a meal can actually help your body digest the food more efficiently and use the food to fuel the exercise, vs exercising in a fasted state which only stresses the body and makes us overcompensate with food later. The next time you catch yourself talking about how you will earn your food, let’s flip that around!

Here’s some funny food for thought…I’m a dietitian, right? Correct. This dietitian hasn’t talked with a single client about how they “should” do Thanksgiving. Enjoy every bite, remember what the holiday is about and bring more to the table than your appetite! 🦃 🍗🍾

Add all the bells and whistles! Discovering the satisfaction factor in your food is one of the top principles of intuitive eating. We tend to eat more calories when we deprive ourselves of what we find satisfying. This is very important as we go into the holidays! It is very important for healthful food behaviors to go into it already satisfied. Don’t deprive yourself leading into the special meal, go about your normal routine, fully satisfied throughout the day and you will be amazed in the difference of your food behaviors. After all, your body will handle anything you consume just fine if it in good portions. Happy, healthful and TASTEY holidays!!

Taste our vision...

“Today more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies, and lack of physical exercise.” –Mike Adams

Cureative Nutrition has an immense passion for food and nutrition as the root of our health. We work with our clients on new and exciting dietary ways that nourish the body, not exhaust it with foreign matter that it has to protect and fight against. While we view food as nourishing for the body, we also believe food nourishes the mind and overall well-being of the individual. Cureative Nutrition is determined to help clients put an end to their worrisome relationship with food and instead, begin to savor and appreciate nourishing food.

The main purpose behind Cureative Nutrition is “to teach the MEANING of food and inspire the act of MINDFUL eating" for individuals who are embarking on a new journey with food, diet and lifestyle change. The name Cureative Nutrition was inspired by the idea of combining food that is meant to cure with creativity to transform and inspire an individual's outlook on managing a new lifestyle experience.

Cureative Nutrition's services include: outpatient dietary consulting, culinary therapy, cooking classes, educational outreach events and corporate programs, personal chef services, and recipe/menu development projects. Chloe values a one-on-one counseling environment with her clients. The most popular service we offer is the comprehensive consulting package including a kickstarter plan for boosting metabolism, a personalized plan development with a daily routine, recipes, lists and behavior modification strategies, as well as the option for continuous 24/7 support. The culinary therapy service focuses on helping an individual accept and facilitate the necessary or optional lifestyle changes that they are embarking on. As the lead consultant, Chloe sits down with patients who have already seen a health care provider, even a dietitian in the past, to sort through the information and create a realistic strategy to implement the new changes. Chloe assesses the client’s knowledge and skill base and determines the best learning style that would be appropriate and most effective. Chloe works with her clients from the ground up detailing plans and recipes created by Cureative Nutrition and based on the health care providers advice, providing general nutrition information and culinary classes, to help the client choose foods from the store and renovate their pantry and refrigerator. After the service is provided the client will walk away with more confidence and knowledge to accept responsibility of their personal health and wellness.
