I love Tummy Time. Babies need tummy time to not only build neck and for muscle tone, but to stretch out all their contracted muscles after life in the womb and delivery. Did you know yummy time can help improve your baby’s latch?
Yep. The muscles in the neck attach to the jaw and tongue 👅! Tummy time, strengthens and stretches those muscles improving range and tone. Tummy time is important for ALL babies but especially those with latch dysfunctions or oral restrictions (tongue ties).
Does your baby hate Tummy Time? Usually the babies who hate tummy time need it the most!! Here’s some tips to make tummy time successful for you and your baby:
✅Tummy Time is a team sport! Interact with you baby. Get down in your tummy and make eye contact. Stick out your tongue, make raspberry noises, play. Help your baby know this Funtime!
✅ Don’t plop your baby straight down on their tummy. Lay them on their back and gently roll them on their belly. It’s is an easier transition.
✅Start up with baby propped up on a Boppy. When baby’s chest is on a Boppy with arms draped over, it allows for a more gentle stretch while they work in their skills.
✅Place baby prone on your chest! When baby looks up at you or does head lifts, they are working tummy time muscles!
✅Keep it short, keep it positive! Tummy time isn’t boot camp. Start with short 5 minutes sessions and build up. If baby is not having fun, end the session and try again later (or try one of the other methods listed above).
