Today marks the 114th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts in Savannah by Juliette Gordon Low. At the celebration today, Memorial Health's CEO, Brad Talbert had the privilege of presenting a $25,000 grant to the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia and their CEO, Krystal Crawford. This grant provided by Memorial's parent company HCA Healthcare, will provide funds to implement the Mental Wellness patch programs for girls in this region. Mild-to-moderate cramps can be a normal part of your menstrual cycle. But when drags on for days, disrupts work or school or makes everyday life feel overwhelming, it could be your body’s way of saying that something more is going on. This is especially true if you’re also dealing with heavy bleeding, nausea or worsening pain.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is presented to nurses who provide patients and families with excellence in clinical care and compassion. Our recent DAISY Award winner, Nicholas Gils, RN in our neuro intensive care unit, certainly characterizes these qualities. He was nominated by a patient's family member.

His nomination read, "My son is 25 years old, but due to his autism, he has limited verbal output and functions at the level of a child. He also has severe seizure activity, which has led to him being placed in the ICU twice last year. I am grateful that Nicholas not only operates according to protocol but also puts heart into healthcare. He was permitted to remain with my son during his ICU stays, which helped me and my son mentally and emotionally. I appreciate Mr. Gils' understanding of the importance of my son's emotional support being a part of his overall wellness.
Congratulations and thank you, Nicholas, for embodying our mission - Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

Research shows reading aloud to children as early as birth stimulates brain development. It strengthens their vocabulary and language skills, helps them develop empathy and learn about the world around them. Reading aloud also contributes to bonding. To celebrate and Dr. Seuss' birthday, some of our Memorial Health leaders enjoyed reading children's books to some of the babies in our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). And, thank you to Pilots For Kids Organization - Savannah Chapter who donated books for every baby in the NICU to keep!

Memorial Health has the only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit in southeast Georgia. This means we provide the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborns in our region.
