Congratulations to our recent Daisy Award winner, Katheryne Purser, RN, in our Children’s Hospital of Savannah. She was nominated by a patient’s family member. Her nomination read, “Katheryne has been on the pediatric unit where my son was admitted. From the very beginning, she demonstrated unwavering responsiveness, compassion, energy, attentiveness, and provided a critical path of communication between myself and the care team. She's not only given outstanding care to my son, but she also took the time to care for me as a parent and a person; she's met me with empathy, understanding, and steady reassurance. Her presence has had an immensely positive impact and has made this experience much easier and more positive than it would have been without her. She shared with me that she is a recent nursing graduate, but I never would have known based on her professionalism and poise. Her maturity, emotional intelligence, and dedication are far beyond what one might expect from someone so early in their career. She has the strength and compassion of a seasoned veteran, and it's clear she has found her true calling in nursing. I am deeply grateful for her.”

Katheryne, thank you for commitment to excellence in nursing care. We are so proud to have you on our team!

screening looks different at every age. Experts recommend that you start talking with your doctor about your personal risk of breast cancer as early as age 25. Depending on your family history or other factors, you may qualify for genetic counseling, earlier screening or both.

If you have a higher risk of breast cancer, screening may begin as early as age 30, or 10 years before the age a close relative was diagnosed. Because each person’s health needs are unique, it’s important to talk with your doctor about a personalized approach to screening.

Organizations that set medical screening guidelines now universally recommend starting mammogram screening at age 40 if you have an average risk of breast cancer. Across our broader HCA Healthcare network, caregivers perform approximately 1.5 million mammograms each year, helping patients take proactive steps toward early detection and better outcomes. If it’s time to schedule your next mammogram, you can call (912) 350-PINK (7465) or memorialhealth.com/mammo.

Families at the Children's Hospital of Savannah got a LOT of really nice treats from the Soldiers United, MC, from Hinesville, Georgia. The group is made up of soldiers, veterans and supportive spouses - many of whom are still serving in the military. They focus on service and giving back. The group partnered with Harley Davidson, Walmart, Kroger, Sam's Club and Food Lion for this generous donation.

It is always nice to get some surprise treats and snacks for long stays in the hospital. The families were thrilled to have the support of this group and their donors.

When Memorial Hospital opened in 1955, children were cared for on a special pediatric wing in the hospital. In 1992, we took pediatric care in Savannah to a new level by opening the region’s first children’s hospital as a “hospital within a hospital” on the third floor of our main tower. We added specialized services including pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric critical care, pediatric emergency, pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology and more; services that families had previously traveled to larger cities to receive.

Twenty years later, Memorial Health announced plans for a freestanding children’s hospital on our campus. In 2018, our new parent company, HCA Healthcare, committed $66 million to this project. The Memorial Health Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah opened in March 2021. Last year, we cared for more than 3,500 admitted patients and 44,900 pediatric emergencies. We are proud to provide high-quality care for children in southeast Georgia.
