This little guy needs everyone to give him a break. Afterall, he's only 4 months old and hasn't learned yet from all of life's challenges!

So ... he wondered what a sewing needle might taste like! Wait, .. what? โ˜น๏ธ

We got a call from our friends at Allison Animal Care saying that the X-rays show a large needle in the stomach. Brace yourself and take a look for yourself. Yep, that's a needle. No, ... just, noooo! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Take a look through the scope, yep there it is amongst lots of food that was recently eaten. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

(it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!) ๐Ÿ™„

Here is the needle out of the stomach!

We are hoping that this sweetie has learned a lesson, but do 4-month-old anything's learn from their mistakes? Let's hope so!

Lil Mama bit off way more than she could swallow! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

We got a call from our good friends at Vidalia Veterinary Clinic that Lil Mama was in a bit of trouble with a bone lodged in her esophagus. She was unable to eat or drink, things were not looking good! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

You can see the bone on the X-ray stuck in the esophagus just above the heart! Yikes, gulp!

We took a look with the endoscope and yep, sure enough a large chunk of bone was stuck, and causing bleeding of the lining of the esophagus. No, please no! ๐Ÿ˜ข

Using graspers and careful twisting and traction we were able to break the bone into smaller pieces, and one-by-one removed these. Phew!

Lil Mama woke right up and was hungry enough to eat a whole can of food in seconds! No problem swallowing!

We told her the next time she is eating ribs, it's only the meat not the bone!

LโคVE Lil Mama!

Cruiser was not going to be shown up by the US Olympic Team (congratulations to all of our athletes in Paris and Go USA!!!). ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Cruiser is no stranger to medals himself!! ๐Ÿ…He is an expert in barn hunt competition. Not sure what a barn hunt competition is? Take a look at this link. https://www.akc.org/sports/title-recognition-program/barn-hunt/

At 15 years old, he takes on and excels past dogs half his age! Cruiser doesn't let his age (or his inflammatory bowel disease) slow him down!!

We could all learn a thing or two from Cruiser!

LOVE Cruiser! ๐Ÿ˜

You could say that Daisy has a sweet tooth! She was such a naughty girl!! ๐Ÿ˜˜

Daisy smelled some delicious candy up on the kitchen counter and decided to take a little taste. And a little taste. And a little taste ....

The bad news is that there were 48 pieces of candy to taste.

The good news is that there were not 49 pieces of candy to taste! ๐Ÿค”

Take a look at sweet (get it?) Daisy, the candy wrappers in the stomach seen with the scope, and all of them out of the stomach!

Tip: let's unwrap those candies next time Daisy! ๐Ÿฅฐโค ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿญ

As we get closer to summer and start spending more time outdoors with our furry buddies, do you know what ELSE is spending time with you outside?

Do you recognize this plant? โ˜ ๏ธ

Take a close look at this one and be sure that your dog stays far away from Sago palms!

These plants can cause liver failure if any of the plant is eaten, especially the seeds โ€” sometimes it only takes a lick!

If you see your dog ingest this plant, please seek assistance from your veterinarian immediately โ€” itโ€™s a โ€œdo not wait, go nowโ€ type of thing. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Jade and her Mom just won the Powerball! Whooo! ๐Ÿคฉ

Well, not really, but it feels like they did.

We got a call from our friends at 204 Animal Hospital asking if we could see Jade for terrible urinary problems. Peeing was painful, she was missing the litterbox, and the whole situation was anything but I-Just-Won-The-Lottery. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Our hearts sank when the ultrasound showed that Jade had accumulated multiple large bladder stones! This usually means surgery is in the future. Oh nooo!

Mom wasn't having any of that. Other options were needed, stat! We discussed modifying her lifestyle and dietary changes. We warned this might be a Hail Mary pass, but Mom needed other options before going under the knife! ๐Ÿฅบ

We saw Jade the other day after a lifestyle-makeover, and ... Lottery Time ... the stones were completely dissolved! Take a look for yourself at the before and after ultrasound pictures. Phew!

Jade is back to her normal self, no straining, no crying, no blood and no missing the litterbox!

We suspect now that Jade is into a healthier lifestyle, we won't be needing to see her again any time soon.

Perhaps we can all learn a little from Jade.

Start those New Years resolutions folks!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (right after we go to Starbucks) ๐Ÿคซ

Possum is soooo thankful this day for two (probably more!) things:
1. He is on the mend from a vicious blood disease AND a scary heart condition,
2. He has the most wonderful, dedicated family he could ever hope for.

With dedication from Mom, tons of TLC, lots of pills (yep, don't forget the pills) and a couple of blood transfusions, we are happy to report that Possum's condition has gone from ๐Ÿ˜ข Critical-We-Are-All-So-Worried to ๐Ÿ˜Ž Let's-Have-Some-Turkey-And-Watch-Football!

WE are soooo thankful for:
1. Possum, and the patients that we have been privileged to care for this year,
2. The cardiology collaboration with Dr Jesty and the entire team at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center
3. Port Royal Veterinary Hospital in Port Royal, SC, for giving us a heads up that Possum may benefit from blood transfusions and a bit of internal medicine assistance.

I think there's a turkey to cook somewhere around here! ๐Ÿฆƒ Possum is ready!

Happy thanksgiving!!!

As we get closer to Turkey Day (aka Thanksgiving), we wanted to remind you that not all foods (and drinks!) that we enjoy while watching football and spending time with family and friends are healthy (or even safe!) for your furry family members! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Take a look at this helpful list from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center prior to sitting down and indulging on some tryptophan on Thursday.

View the list of poisonous foods to avoid, including: chocolate, xylitol, alcohol, avocado, coffee, caffeine, citrus, coconut, coconut oil, grapes, raisin, macadamia nuts, milk and dairy.

During Veterinary Technician Week, we wanted to give a shout out, round of applause ๐Ÿ‘‹ and express a debt of gratitude ๐Ÿ˜š to all RVTs, LVTs, Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Front Office Support staff everywhere!

Their dedication, hard work and compassion is what allows so many fur babies to feel better, live longer and live happier; not to mention they make our profession the best profession that ever was! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

We love all of these awesome superhero professionals (and especially ours.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Take a look at our website to meet our new staff members (and while you are there, check out our not so new staff members ... no, that does not mean "old"). ๐Ÿ™„
