Stretching is essential after your acupuncture treatment.

Stretching After Acupuncture or Massage is important. Acupuncture or massage can leave you feeling energized and refreshed. That’s golden. But be mindful of your fresh energy. If you rush out to exercise, you could unravel some of the good your treatments are doing in your body. Instead, use stretching to extend the health benefits you gain from your visit

Avoid exercise for 24 hours after treatments, but don’t melt into your couch. Stretching is essential after your acupuncture, massage, cupping, and other treatments. Your treatments already increase blood flow to muscles—stretching afterward keeps the blood moving and the relaxed yet energized feeling alive.

Stretching benefits more than muscles, too. It engages connective tissue that links muscles, bones, blood vessels, and organs, writes Dr. Helene Langevin, director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. She notes that massage and acupuncture have beneficial tissue-stretching components.

WHAT YOUR PULSE TELLS YOUR ACUPUNCTURIST ABOUT YOUR HEALTH
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pulse palpation—an examination in which a practitioner takes a patient’s pulse—is a key component to diagnosing imbalances and viewing a person’s overall health. Believe it or not, there are twenty-eight different qualities of pulses that can be felt on the wrists. Each quality gives the practitioner different information. The goal of pulse diagnosis is to determine the state of the internal energy and organ systems that allow our bodies to either thrive and function, or weaken and decline. A pulse can indicate the cause of illness, and what steps to take to resolve the situation, as well as the prognosis for recovery.
Different pulse positions on each wrist correspond to different organs in the body. Three fingers (the index, middle and ring finger) are placed over the radial artery of each wrist. Each finger rests on a different part of the pulse—front, middle, and rear. With each position lie three levels—superficial, middle, and deep. The pulses and three positions on the right wrist correspond to the lung and large intestine, stomach and spleen, and the kidney (yang) energies, respectively. The pulses and three positions on the left wrist correspond to the heart and small intestine, liver and gallbladder, and the kidney (yin) energies.
Besides pulse rate, there are four pulse attributes that are equally important in pulse diagnosis—pulse width, length, depth, and quality. All four of these attributes allow the practitioner to diagnose and treat diseases and pathogenic invasions, as well as identify weaknesses, excesses or imbalances.

Hi, I’m Rena Howell and welcome to my practice!

I have a masters degree in 5 element acupuncture' and have been in private practice for 22 years.
I was drawn to the ancient five element tradition because of it's belief that the emotions and spirit are just as important to healing as the body.
I work in partnership with my clients, supporting them in living the full expression of who they are.I love to see my clients experiencing new joy and ease ( including relief from pain and stress) , bringing them home to themselves.
Each treatment is unique to each client each time, tailored to address the core of what is going on with them in general and on that day.
I only treat one person at at time so I can fully support the client I'm seeing.

While there are many ways to manage stress and anxiety, people are increasingly turning to acupuncture to calm frayed nerves.

"Acupuncture stimulates the body's natural feel-good hormones and reduces the level of stress hormones like cortisol," says Mathew Kulas, MA, RAc, an acupuncturist at Henry Ford Health. Studies show that acupuncture is an effective treatment for anxiety, with fewer side effects than medications

What Is Facial Acupuncture?

Facial acupuncture is a skin treatment that involves inserting tiny sterile needles into specific parts of the face to improve blood flow and circulation. Sandra Chiu shares that facial cosmetic acupuncture can treat fine lines and wrinkles, jowl sagging and a heavy lower face, a dull complexion, volume loss, dark under-eye circles, and puffiness.

Acupuncture and Acupoints for Low Back Pain: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Geesung Kim et al. Am J Chin Med. 2023. Abstract

Acupuncture has been used as a therapeutic intervention for the treatment of numerous diseases and symptoms for thousands of years, and low back pain has been studied and treated the most in acupuncture clinics. Traditional theory strongly suggests that the selection of acupoints will influence their clinical effects and combinations (e.g., the clinical effects of a particular acupoint or combination on reducing pain), but this idea was not considered in earlier systematic reviews and meta-analyses. We performed a systematic review, meta-analysis, and network analysis to evaluate the magnitude of the effects of acupoints used to treat low back pain in randomized controlled clinical trials. We found that acupuncture significantly reduced pain in patients with low back pain compared with the control group. The most frequently prescribed acupoints were BL23, GV3, BL20, BL40, and BL25, whereas the acupoints with the highest average effect size scores were BL20, GV3, GB30, GB34, and BL25. Further, the combinations of BL23-BL40, BL23-B25, and BL23-BL60 were the most frequently prescribed, while BL23-GV3, BL40-GV4, and BL23-BL25 showed the largest average effect size. By calculating clinical outcomes based on average effect sizes, we found that the most popular acupoints might not always be associated with the best results. Although a more thorough investigation is necessary to determine the clinical effects of each acupoint and combination on patients, we suggest that our approach may offer a fresh perspective that will be useful for future research.

When should acupuncture fertility treatment begin?
Acupuncture is similar to physical therapy in that it is a process-oriented method of medical intervention. It is better to do more than less. Patients are commonly treated for three to four months before progressing to insemination, in vitro fertilization (IVF), or donor-egg transfer. This pacing of treatment seems to have a therapeutic effect.
In a study by Stener-Victorin et al from the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology Fertility Centre, Scandinavia and the University of Gothenburg, women are encouraged to receive acupuncture treatments pre and post embryo transfer.
Clinical observations from the Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness suggest that the most effective fertility treatments involve a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and traditional medicine. However, conception occasionally occurs when acupuncture and herbal medicines are used without traditional medical interventions.

When should I stop?
Typically most miscarriages occur within the first 3 months of pregnancy. Consequently, treatment of patients may often last through week twelve to help prevent miscarriage.

Are the acupuncture points different after an insemination, IVF, or donor-egg transfer than before?
Acupuncturists should not place needles in the abdominopelvic area after insemination or transfer. There are 6 contraindicated acupuncture points which should be avoided when the patient is pregnant or pregnancy is suspected. These include Gallbladder 21, Stomach 12, Large Intestine 4, Spleen 6, Bladder 60, Bladder 67 and any points on the lower abdomen.
