We are proud to announce that we have received the Certified Autism Center certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards! As a department, we are committed to providing exceptional patient care and meet all of our patients’ needs when called upon!

With autism diagnoses increasing globally, healthcare providers must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to support individuals with autism effectively. Autistic individuals are significantly more likely to visit healthcare facilities, being fifty-two (52) times more likely to see a doctor or therapist and 4 to 8 times more likely to visit an emergency department. Recognizing this need, the Certified Autism Center™ program equipped Community Ambulance with specialized training and certification tailored for our healthcare environment.

Rest in Peace to Ex-Chief Jamie Atkinson

Jamie initially joined Community Ambulance Youth Squad and would become a Regular Member in 1999.  Jamie showed an enthusiasm for leadership; climbing the ranks, serving as Captain in 2006, Assistant Chief in 2008 and 2009, and eventually taking on the job of Chief of Operations in 2010. Jamie also joined the Board of Directors in 2014 where he ended as Vice President as of 2025. During his time as Chief, Jamie was instrumental in the creation of a public access defibrillator program as well as the Nasal Narcan program. Jamie helped Sayville become one of the first agencies in the town of Islip to develop a controlled substance program, which provides vital medications to patients suffering from severe pain and illness. In 2010, and under Jamie’s leadership, the Suffolk County REMSCO named Community Ambulance EMS Agency of the Year. Jamie received Countless Commendations from surrounding districts, police departments, governing bodies; and everything listed here are only a few of the many impacts that Jamie has had on his Community.

Jamie retired from the MTA Police Department holding the role of Detective. He most recently held the position of Fire Coordinator for Suffolk County.

We are so lucky to have someone like him a part of our community. He is the epitome of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”, but Jamie always went beyond our standards to help anyone who needed it. His impact and selflessness will never be forgotten, instead a standard we will all aspire to be. Rest in Peace Jamie. 🤍

Happy Memorial Day 🇺🇸❤️

We started the day doing a ceremony led by Chief White, and presented a wreath at our headquarters. We then attended the Sayville, Bohemia and Bayport parades to remember the brave men and women that gave their lives for our freedom.

We remember them today, tomorrow and forever. All gave some, some gave all. ❤️🤍💙
