I've always been amazed and humbled by the power of plants

And on this trip I saw so many and so different and some old familiars. Yes the Lavender Farm had its charm and power. Yet the Wild Rose hips were twice the size of home. Juicy Hawthorne berries so ripe they were ready to fall. Many fields of St John's Wort, Yarrow and Mullein plus clumps of Plantain. And so many others I tried to identify by this book and by the Maori teachings

It just reminds me again that there are over half a million medicinal herbs, and I know only a little about a few. This is a lifelong learning adventure.

Thank you New Zealand for showing me your plants, your culture and your wisdom

Goodbye Te Anau
I'll never forget you

One last walk along the lake and Keppler's Track

Met a couple from Georgia who got married in Southwest Harbor. Same age. Sweet connection before we head toward home

To Queenstown, then a puddle jumper to Auckland then USA.

It's time

If you can manage it, come visit this place. Unlike anything I've ever seen.

Started into the Doubtful Sound with a dark, moody , mysterious mood over the waters and mountains....but after a short burst of rain we were blessed with sun and clearing. As it rains 8 METERS a year here that itself was Magical

It all was magic. The mist of so many waterfalls, walls and sides scaped by a glacier spoon long ago, albatrosses flying by and fur seals frolicking. And the deep, rolling water emptying into the sea. And that wind!

My favorite? 3 minutes of silence, drifting in one of the hidden bays. Boat off. No talking, moving or photos. Just....noticing

You could hear the 4 waterfalls, the birds, feel the ancient energy that the Maori must have felt exploring this area.

That 3 minutes of beauty and awe will fill me up for a long time

The 2 hr drive from our condo to Milford Sound was full of the NZ twisting roads yet whole new vistas

The cruise through the Milford Sound, with stunning granite faces, jagged peaks, glaciers, cascading and misting waterfalls...ending at the Tasman Sea is something I'll never forget.

And the naturalist who led us, a fjord specialist with his history in fjords from Norway to Patagonia to Antarctica, was just icing on the cake. We learned of the Maori tribe who brought back greenstone from these bays to seal trappers who traded up the coast. All part of this area's history

Pictures and videos are a mere shadow of its beauty. I cried 3 times, overwhelmed by emotions being here.

Mother Nature. This is some of your best work. Well done

Another day of winding roads from Queenstown to Te Anua, nearing the end of our trip

First stop a really cool forest restoration project.( But we had to watch these men battle in a serious game of croquet!)

Nice views up the lake. No wonder everything grows so fast here

Restoring Native Biodiversity to the Whakatipu Basin https://share.google/F1AlZzXxvFwxFwEWJ

Then amazing valleys and vistas with a stop for honey and coffee then onto another World Heritage site. Protecting scrubby pines, other native plants and at least 8 types of lichen. Fragile and beautiful

Then onto our home for 3 days, nearing the end of our trip, near the southeast tip near Antartica

Left Wanaka towards Queenstown after a stop at this cute food trucks and coffeeshop for a bagel

Then to touch the famous Wanaka Tree, that represents resilience, that grows out of the lake

Up Iron Mountain, with its fully laden Hawthorne bushes, for a last view over the town and mountains . Wanaka was my fav place yet

Onto Queenstown for a nap, then stroll around the lake through the park with sequoias, statues, vistas plus frisbee disc gold AND a bowling green
Finished a lovely meal at this lakeside spot.

I had tears of gratitude in my eyes several times because it was such a surreal dinner , surrounded by beauty and the setting sun with a man I love.

Man New Zealand, you really don't fool around!

Love this guy and this dinner view!

Watching the sunrise over the majestic mountains in Haast, then driving through the pass , along rovers and lakes..breathtaking.

The ragged peaks, the waterfalls, the Blue Pools, the undulating of all the suspension bridges, the soft hiking trails..my body was overloaded with the AWE of it all

And Wanaka is the cutest town...organic food stores, clusters of food trucks along a stream. Unfortunately we will miss the big " A&P show" starting Friday, which a local described as ' farm animals, shows and hillbillies'

An herbalist dream. The Wanaka Lavender Farm. Family owned, 23 acres of Lavender and herbs. Over 30 varieties, even a white lavender!

Cool apothecary with amazing infused honey, balms, creams and essential oils

The distilling process was quite the sight with bags and bags of lavender stalks added to the hopper

Then they mulch with the leftover! Permaculture recycle
and reuse

And a huge labyrinth ( or lavyrinth)
