🍀 We’re proud to celebrate National Social Work Month and World Social Work Day on March 17 by recognizing the incredible social workers who support our residents, families, and care teams.

Our social workers play a vital role in advocating for Veterans, supporting families through important transitions, and helping ensure each resident’s voice, dignity, and personal story remain at the center of their care.

Today we’re recognizing our licensed social workers:
Mike Bicknell, Jane Caras, and Chris Mayo.

When asked what they enjoy most about their work, their responses reflect the heart of social work:

💬 Improving the welfare of all residents and meeting their basic needs
💬 Enhancing human well-being and enriching lives with dignity

This year’s theme for Social Work Month is “Uplift. Defend. Transform.” — a powerful reflection of the impact our social workers have every single day.

And since World Social Work Day falls on St. Patrick’s Day this year, we’re so excited to celebrate we might just break out an Irish jig! ☘️💃

🌟 We're celebrating Healthcare HR Week (March 16–20)! It's a time to recognize the human resources professionals who support the people behind the care. From recruiting and onboarding to supporting employees and strengthening our teams, HR plays a vital role in helping our Homes provide the best possible care for our residents.

Today we’re highlighting Kathleen Krebs (left), HR Manager, and Abbey Taylor (right), HR Assistant, who bring compassion, connection, and support to their work every day. We asked what they enjoy most about their work and here's what they shared:

☕ was last week and we celebrated by bringing a little surprise around to our amazing staff. Sam and Morgan from the Retention Committee rolled out a coffee cart and delivered bags of goodies to employees throughout the building.

It was a small way to say thank you to the incredible team that shows up every day to care for our residents and support one another. We are truly grateful for the dedication, compassion, and teamwork that make our Home such a special place.

We appreciate each and every one of you! 💐

🎉 Happy Long Term Care Administrator's Week!

Today we’re proud to recognize our Administrator, Patty Nutting.

Patty joined the Scarborough Home in 2017 as Rehab Manager, quickly becoming a valued leader and advocate for both residents and staff. She later entered the Administrator in Training (AIT) program, where she trained under the guidance of Jake Anderson, who was serving as Administrator of the Augusta Home at the time and is now our Chief Operating Officer.

In June 2024, Patty stepped into the role of Administrator, bringing with her a caring and supportive approach to leadership that reflects the heart of our mission.

Patty is known for her thoughtful, people-centered leadership style—encouraging collaboration, supporting her team, and fostering an environment where staff and residents feel valued. Under her leadership, our Home continues to embrace the many things that make it unique while always evolving to meet the changing needs of the Veterans we serve and the staff who care for them.

Long-term care administrators carry a wide range of responsibilities, often working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly for residents, families, and staff. From navigating regulations and operational challenges to supporting employees and shaping culture, their leadership plays a critical role in enabling the best possible care outcomes.
