Summer camp is more than just fun, it’s a place where children build confidence, friendships, and independence. Across Maine, several wonderful programs are offering inclusive summer camp experiences for children with disabilities.
We’re excited to highlight a few options for families who may be planning ahead for summer.
Pine Tree Camp | Belgrade Lakes Region
Ages: Children, teens, and adults
Programs: Day and overnight sessions
Run by Pine Tree Society, Pine Tree Camp offers fully accessible outdoor experiences including adaptive sports, boating, arts, nature programs, and more on a 285-acre accessible campus. The camp provides a high counselor-to-camper ratio and offers tuition assistance so families can participate regardless of financial ability.

Camp STRIVE | South Portland
Ages: 11–24
Programs: Inclusive day camp
Camp STRIVE focuses on helping teens and young adults with developmental disabilities build friendships, social skills, and independence through activities like games, cooking, arts and crafts, and community outings.

Adaptive Outdoor Education Center (AOEC) | Brunswick & Portland
Ages: School-aged youth
Programs: Inclusion camps for youth with autism and other disabilities
AOEC’s Horizons camps provide 1:1 volunteer support for campers and focus on outdoor adventure, teamwork, and confidence-building in a supportive environment.

Camp CaPella | Dedham
Ages: 5+
Programs: Day and overnight camps
Located on Phillips Lake, Camp CaPella offers recreational and educational summer experiences specifically designed for children and adults with disabilities, including swimming, boating, hiking, and arts programs in a fully accessible setting.
