Farmers Myke & Kathryn of November's Harvest Farm joined us for National Garlic Day! Garlic is one of their favorite crops, and they grow a wide variety of it every year. In early March, they began weekly plantings of garlic in glass jars to show us the progression of plant growth. We discussed the difference between hard and soft neck varieties, the joy of garlic scapes (the edible stems of the plant, used similarly to scallions, allowing for that early garlic flavor), the benefits of planting in the fall, and many other things. They even brought in bread and garlic-infused olive oil for a snack so the residents could taste the difference between fresh and raw garlic.

Everyone had a fabulous time and learned so much. Thank you, Myke & Kathryn!

What a delightful presentation from Nancy R's daughter-in-law Karen. Not too long ago, she discovered several rolls of forgotten film from yesteryear and had them developed. They turned out to tell a family story starting back when her own mother was a young girl!

With help from others in her family, she pieced together the whos, whats, whens, and wheres of several generations and shared them with Enclave of Scarborough's residents. She even brought in a map of Maine to show us where the old family farm was, as well as a variety of vintage cameras, the styles of which may have taken some of the photographs shared.

In honor of National Poetry Month, we read Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken and illustrated our vision of it. Mary K's less traveled road was possibly the most unique: She based hers on a story from life engagement assistant Alyssa's recent vacation, where she took a barely traveled road down to a lagoon to see flamingos! Bonnie G added her own story to go with her illustrations. Stella F's was so alike the poem, with "two paths diverging in a yellow wood."

The joy of art and poetry is there is no right or wrong way to go about it, simply your own interpretation and delight!

We always love experimenting in the kitchen, especially with an old favorite: peanut butter cookies! We whipped up two batches. The first was your classic peanut butter cookie. The second was a gluten-free and dairy-free version. They baked for the same amount of time, so we tried both of them warm. About half the group preferred the original, because why mess with a good thing?! The other half loved how the peanut butter flavor really came through in the flourless batch. But it's no secret that both kinds were absolutely delectable!
