Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see at CERF! We loved engaging with students who are passionate about estuarine science and love using FlowCam—including Sarah McCaffrey, the winner of our FlowCam raffle!

Sarah is an NSF-RaMP BOATS intern at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab under Dr. Brian Dzwonkowski. While on a semester away at Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, she used FlowCam to investigate distribution patterns in the South Atlantic Bight.

Her favorite phytoplankton to see in the samples were Akashiwo sanguinea: “They just look so cute even though they can be harmful,” Sarah said. Next steps for Sarah include applying for graduate opportunities in marine ecology.

Congratulations, Sarah!

We're excited to be exhibiting at CERF this year! FlowCam Aquatic Sales Manager, Leah Anne Gibala-Smith, will be in Richmond next week to tell you more about our new export feature for plankton community analysis along the freshwater to marine continuum.

Visit us in Booth 301, and you'll be entered to win a raffle for an LL Bean backpack, a FlowCam sweater vest, a dinoflagellate figurine, and some other fun goodies!

📆 November 9 – 13, 2025
📍 Greater Richmond Convention Center, Booth 301

We look forward to hearing your insights, questions, and ideas—the best progress happens when we collaborate.

Will we see you next week at ?

If you’re attending the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) Symposium, stop by Booth #1 to see FlowCam in action. 💧

Bring a water sample from your lake or study site, and we’ll analyze it live at our booth—so you can see your sample’s microbial community in action, including algae and cyanobacteria

We’re looking forward to connecting with lake managers, researchers, and anyone passionate about understanding what’s in their water. See you there!

🌿 Exploring the hidden world of freshwater plankton 🌿

From upland peat bogs to tiny puddles, every drop of water holds a unique microbial story. In our latest blog post, FlowCam Field Application Scientist Daniela Sturm takes readers into England’s upland bogs to reveal how imaging technology helps uncover the diversity of microscopic life in these overlooked ecosystems.

Using FlowCam, Daniella captured thousands of plankton images in minutes, showing how small shifts in water clarity or vegetation can completely change community structure.

It’s a reminder that microbial ecology doesn’t just happen in the lab—it starts in the field, with curiosity, a sample bottle, and the right tools.

Come along on a hike to explore freshwater plankton and microbial ecology with FlowCam—rapidly capture diverse plankton communities in upland bog habitats.

We had a fantastic time last month at FlowCam University with our biopharma customers in September!

We dove deep into hands-on training in flow imaging microscopy, from instrument setup and sample prep to advanced data wrangling and classification using VisualSpreadsheet. It was inspiring to see the energy, questions, and new ideas shared across the room.

Thank you to everyone who attended! You made this event meaningful and engaging. Can’t wait to do it again — stay tuned for 2026 details!
