We are pleased to announce that Marc Couturier, PhD, has joined NorDx | MaineHealth as our new Director of Clinical Microbiology.
Dr. Couturier comes to us from Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was a Professor of Pathology at the University of Utah and served as the Head of Medical Operations for Microbiology and Immunology at ARUP Laboratories, which is one of the largest academic not-for-profit reference laboratories in the country. He led several sections at ARUP, including bacteriology, molecular detection, parasitology, and infectious disease rapid testing.
A recognized leader in the field of clinical microbiology, Dr. Couturier has a productive clinical research program, with over 65 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters in major clinical microbiology texts. He has served on several CDC task forces and committees, including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC). Dr. Couturier is also an excellent educator and mentor, providing regular lectures and bench-side instruction to medical students, resident and fellow physicians, and laboratorians.
Born and raised in Maine, Marc went on to receive his BS in Biology at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, a Ph.D in Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Alberta. He did a post-doctoral fellowship at the Alberta Provincial Laboratory for Public Health and at the University of Utah.
