🌎 Healing Beyond Borders: Dr. Joon Lee Leads with Purpose in Indonesia

We are incredibly proud of our Medical Director, Dr. Joon Lee, who recently returned from a medical mission in Bogor, Indonesia, with the organization KAMPANY, Korean American Physician Association of NY. For Dr. Lee, this mission was especially meaningful, as she spent part of her childhood in Indonesia—and this return, in service of the community, was both humbling and inspiring.

Alongside four fellow physicians, Dr. Lee provided care to over 329 patients in just three days. The team brought much-needed medical services to underserved pastors, missionaries, and workers—many of whom had never seen a doctor before. Services included on-site diagnosis and treatment, ultrasound-guided assessments, joint injections, eye exams, and medication distribution. They also collaborated with local healthcare workers to conduct point-of-care lab testing and distribute reading glasses.

One of the most moving moments came when a 41-year-old woman with a 12 cm necrotic breast mass came in. Fear and cultural stigma had kept her from seeking care for years. Through empathy and education, Dr. Lee encouraged her to pursue life-saving treatment—reminding us that healing often begins with simply being heard and understood.

Dr. Lee’s work is a powerful example of what medicine can achieve when it’s delivered with compassion, cultural respect, and a heart for service. At SeeBeyond™ Medicine, we are honored to be led by a physician who lives out our values on a global scale—bringing healing where it’s needed most.
