We couldn’t make it to Cape Cod this year for our end of summer family vacation, so we channeled the best of the Cape for our last special meal - before the older boys leave for college.

Had to make sure Jack’s first night home from camp felt extra special. 🦞🥰.

Menu: Lobster rolls on toasted buttered brioche buns, corn avocado and mint salad, and heirloom tomato and nectarine salad (made by ). Finished up with a s’mores pie!

The Best Of Summer…whipping up the tastiest peach, tomato and avocado salad in just a few minutes from the incredible summer produce sitting on the counter. Getting to share it with made me 😊

Arrange sliced ripe peach, heirloom tomato and avocado on a serving plate. Drizzle with a tangy vinegar such as white balsamic, or sherry and a squeeze of lemon juice. Sprinkle generously with flaky sea salt and some ground black pepper, and finish with extra virgin olive oil. Try topping with torn burrata or fresh mozzarella.

Breakfast: two fried eggs in butter, sliced strawberries, arugula, wild smoked salmon and the secret 🤫 ingredient for gut health and mental health…fermented cabbage!

Fermented foods contain good bacteria (probiotics) that populate the gut and help create a positive microbial environment; improving digestion, absorption of nutrients, reducing inflammation, boosting immunity and metabolism. As our knowledge of the human microbiome increases - we are also making profound connections between gut health and mental health.

On my plate is Golden turmeric cabbage with hot peppers, cumin seeds and sea salt. I also enjoy red cabbage and beets. Look for “wild fermented” vegetables that are stored in the refrigerator section of the market.

Aim for a couple of tablespoons with a meal a few times a week or daily, as tolerated. ***Note that some people who have significant underlying digestive issues such as SIBO do not tolerate fermented foods and probiotics well. In these situations, I work with clients to heal their gut before introducing probiotic foods.

Posting another great breakfast idea…this was for my 16 year old son this morning. All the nutrients to support balanced blood sugar and energy to start the day at school:

* 2 egg omelet cooked in butter with a few slices of leftover prosciutto (wasn’t enough for a sandwich so great way to use it up)
* one kiwi and 1/2 banana sliced
* 1/3 avocado sliced and sprinkled with flaky salt (yum!)

Omelettes and scrambled eggs come together in just a few minutes and provide a great source of protein to help balance blood sugar, supporting mental and physical energy.
___
🥝 is packed with vitamin c and other essential nutrients, and banana provides a great starchy carb alternative to bread
___
Finally, 🥑 is a healthy source of fat and flavor
___
This is truly 5 minutes of prep (and I am slow). The great thing about omelettes is you can scramble enough eggs for a few people in a bowl, and quickly pour each into a pan when ready. Use a whisk and mix vigorously until frothy to incorporate air bubbles for a fluffy omelette that can be sliced into strips for easy eating

A quick “mini” breakfast before heading out to play a paddle match! If you don’t have much of an appetite in the am, and need something quick and easy to digest, try this blood sugar stabilizing snack:

A few tablespoons of coconut yogurt, pomegranate seeds, a spoonful of h**p seeds and a few crushed walnuts. Change it up with berries if you don’t have pomegranate; almonds or pumpkin seeds for walnuts and h**p. Ground flaxseeds also great here.

The last month has been an amazing whirlwind of firsts and celebrations! Congratulations to Sam - our first high school graduate - as he begins this next chapter in Austin. We will miss seeing his big beautiful smile each morning, But…he’ll be bringing all his positive energy to Texas. We can’t wait to witness all the great new things these next four years bring. Sam, your joy has brought me so much happiness these last 18 years. You always say Yes! To a walk around the neighborhood, to going out for a meal, to playing a game of cards, some tennis, and even helping me get through 9 holes of golf (I know that is painful ☺️). You are a thoughtful, caring son. I feel very ready to send you off, knowing you will take excellent care of not only yourself, but those around you. 🥰🥰🥰

Happy 18th Birthday 🥳 Sam! You made me a mom, and all of it - the good and bad, the happy and sad, have been the greatest years of my life! I have learned so much about myself while figuring out how to be a parent. I think the greatest lesson has been: it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. when you look back, the memories are forgiving and only the best parts are in clear focus. Messy vacations, sleepless nights, sibling fights. LOVED it all. I will cherish every fun, imperfect moment I get to be with you - and can’t wait! 🥰🥰🥰
