We at Southwestern PA Therapy Services know that coordinating appointments for speech therapy can be difficult.

Southwestern PA Therapy Services is a private practice providing one-on-one, play-based pediatric speech and language therapy from infancy through early adulthood in Washington and Greene Counties. To make things easier we come to you and your child in their natural environment, be it in-home, daycare, or community-based sessions. What a guest visual to show the end goal of consistent modeling.

They're listening!

One of my favorite tips for emergent communicators! Model model model (especially in routines!)- then lead in and wait! This strategy is great for all modes of communication- speaking, signing, and AAC!

This strategy also varies by child, some may pick up sooner than others while others may need it modeled many more times. The key is to give lots of exposures and then slowly add in wait time for a child to finish a phrase. If the child doesn’t fill in the phrase, it’s okay, the adult still says it!

They all count! Give them credit for those early words!

Did you know that words don’t have to be said in the clear, adult form to count as words?! And a child could say two words that sound the same “dah” to mean both dog and duck - and yes, that’s two words!
