There is a concept within ACT (Acceptance and Committment Therapy) that has us fully contemplate the relativeness of our thoughts and how thoughts can be the cause of stress, upset and emotional distress.
So, know this: We make up our thoughts; we're always trying to make sense of the world...yet, our thoughts and feelings are an overlay of our nervous system that is often looking out for danger. When we engage in negative self talk, it can be a paralizing spiral.
For example, let's say, something goes wrong...you don't like an interaction...or, you face a challenge...and, you say things like, "I'm so stupid, ...I'm always messing up...I'm such a _[fill in the blank]_. How do you feel for telling yourself such things?
Now, if these thoughts are "made-up" and "relative", why not just say, "I'M A BANANA"
