Family meetings between pediatric clinicians and parents play a key role in guiding care decisions for hospitalized children with serious illnesses. This review article looked at various studies to identify what makes these meetings effective, finding that most research so far focuses on intensive care settings and highlights a set of core communication tasks and goals for meetings.
