Ellis Medicine Pediatric Care has received a $25,000 grant from Assemblymember Phil Steck to support our HealthySteps program, part of the national ZERO TO THREE initiative.

HealthySteps connects families with developmental, behavioral, and medical resources from the very beginning of a child’s life — ensuring children have the best possible start. From early intervention and pediatric specialists to family advocacy and everyday essentials, this program surrounds families with the support they need.

Thank you to Assemblymember Steck for helping us strengthen care for children and families in Schenectady.

Meet Yuliya Siegle one of our recent Heart Award ❤️ recipients!

Yuliya is a RN at Ellis Medicine, and she consistently brings her heart to work. Thank you, Yuliya, for all you do to help care for our community and colleagues. See her nomination below!

"Yuliya was nominated for the Heart Award by a grateful patient who experienced her exceptional care firsthand, and by leadership who recognized how deeply her actions impacted that patient.

On this particular night, Yuliya went above and beyond. A patient was exhausted, frustrated, and ready to leave the hospital at 3:30a.m. after struggling to sleep. This is when Yuliya stepped in, not just as a nurse, but as a compassionate listener and calming presence. She took the time to talk, offered to walk the floor together, and helped the patient regain a sense of calm and clarity.

Her kindness in that moment did not just help the patient stay. It may have changed the course of their care. Thanks to Yuliya, they remained in the hospital for a critical procedure. Her actions are a true reflection of what it means to be a nurse, and she is a shining example of the care and compassion that define Ellis Hospital.

Meet Caitlin Poole, one of our recent Heart Award ❤️ recipients!

Caitlin is a radiation therapist at Ellis Medicine, and she consistently brings her heart to work. Thank you, Caitlin, for all you do to help care for our community and colleagues. See her nomination below!

Just a couple of weeks before Valentine’s Day, Caitlin took it upon herself to reach out to different flower shops in the area, asking if they would be willing to donate flowers for our patients, both those undergoing treatment and those coming in for follow-up appointments.

Despite being turned down multiple times, Caitlin didn’t give up. She kept reaching out until she received a yes from Felthousen’s Florist and Greenhouse in Schenectady. On her own personal time, Caitlin picked up the flowers after work on Thursday and brought them into the department first thing Friday morning.

What makes this even more remarkable is that Caitlin had just recently returned from maternity leave and is now balancing life with a newborn and two other young children at home.

The patients were overjoyed. Many were genuinely surprised and touched by the thoughtful gesture.

Caitlin is a shining example of what it means to bring your heart to work. Her kindness and determination turned what can be a very difficult experience, cancer treatment, into something a little brighter for our patients.
