Today, Ellis Medicine volunteers, colleagues, family, and friends gathered at the Annual Ellis Medicine Volunteer Luncheon held at Ellis Hospital to celebrate the impact and dedication of its volunteer community. The luncheon featured the presentation of Junior Volunteer Scholarships and Volunteer Recognition Awards. Volunteers with service ranging from 500 hours to an extraordinary 10,000 hours were also honored for their commitment and contributions.

Volunteers are a vital and indispensable part of the care and services provided to the community. Ellis Medicine extends its sincere gratitude for their ongoing dedication, generosity, and support of the organization’s mission.
We thank all volunteers who continue to embody Ellis Medicine’s core values of integrity, safety, compassion, excellence, and stewardship.

A major milestone for heart care at Ellis Medicine: Our cardiac team has now performed over 1,000 transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures, a minimally invasive treatment that replaces a damaged heart valve without open-heart surgery.

Since the program launched in 2019, the team led by Dr. Aakash Garg has helped patients across the Capital Region recover faster and return to their lives sooner — with many now going home the next day after the procedure.

This milestone reflects the skill and dedication of the entire cardiac team and our commitment to bringing advanced care close to home.

This Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the incredible impact of our Ellis Medicine volunteers 💙 In 2025 alone, they’ve dedicated 23,334 hours of service, showing up with compassion, kindness, and commitment every single day.

With 153 adult volunteers, 100 junior volunteers joining us this summer, and 12 therapy dogs spreading comfort (and plenty of puppy kisses!), our program continues to grow in meaningful ways.

We’re especially proud of our focus on inspiring the next generation, creating opportunities for youth to explore careers in healthcare through hands-on experiences and strong community partnerships.

Last week, we hosted what we called an “opportunity fair” for our colleagues focused on continuous learning and career growth. Our message: “Be Skilled. Be the Difference.”

We want to empower colleagues to advance their careers while making meaningful contributions to our community.

Thanks to generous donations to our Ellis Promise program through the Foundation for Ellis Medicine, we’re able to offer scholarships, tuition assistance, and other kinds of support to our colleagues.

We’re grateful to our partners who made this event possible. Thank you to our department leaders and representatives from Capital Region BOCES, Bryant & Stratton College, SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, and Excelsior University for spending the day sharing opportunities with our colleagues.
