Missed appointments. Delayed care. Lost follow-ups. For many people with disabilities, these aren’t isolated incidents — they’re the reality of navigating a healthcare system that assumes transportation won’t be an issue. But when paratransit is late, the van doesn’t show up, or there’s no accessible route, even routine care becomes complicated — or impossible.

Transportation directly affects healthcare access. No one should lose out on treatment, therapy, or basic care because a ride fell through.

At the Transportation Summit, we’ll talk about how to close that gap — and make sure systems designed to support health aren’t blocked by transportation failures.

Be part of the conversation. Be part of the solution.

July is Park and Recreation Month, a time to recognize the importance of public spaces that are welcoming, inclusive, and built for everyone. It’s a reminder that recreation should reflect the needs of the whole community — and that includes people with disabilities.

On July 26, On the Trails brings that vision to life. We’re inviting the disability community to come together at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor for a relaxed, inclusive morning on the Erie Canal trail. Whether you walk, roll, or bike, you’re welcome to move your way.

Start the day with a breakfast picnic by the water. Meet local vendors who offer real resources for health, wellness, and disability support. Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the ADA with a community that shows up for each other.

This event was designed with intention — not just to be accessible, but to feel like it belongs to all of us.

🎽 Free event t-shirts for the first 90 attendees
🧺 Casual breakfast picnic
🛤️ Flat, accessible trail for walking, rolling, or biking
🛠️ Local vendors + community resources
📍 Syracuse Inner Harbor | 🗓️ Friday, July 26

👦👧 When we talk about mental wellness, it’s not just for adults.

At Empowering Minds and Enriching Futures: Mental Wellness and Disability, we’re creating space for the entire family to show up, recharge, and connect—including our youngest attendees. That’s where Kids Camp comes in: a dedicated area for children 12 and under filled with creativity, play, and wellness-focused activities designed just for them.

With games, music therapy, art projects, and therapy dog visits, Kids Camp makes sure your child is supported, engaged, and cared for while you attend sessions and connect with other parents and caregivers.

Parents remain responsible for toileting and supervision as needed, but we’ve got the rest covered with meaningful and fun programming rooted in wellness.

Transportation decisions are too often made without the people most affected in the room. People with disabilities know exactly what’s broken — and what needs to change. But their voices are routinely left out of policy, planning, and design conversations that shape how we move.

That’s why the Transportation Summit is different. It centers disabled New Yorkers, their families, caregivers, and advocates — and brings them into direct dialogue with policymakers, providers, and system leaders. Because representation isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s how real change begins.

If you’ve felt unheard or overlooked when it comes to transportation, the Transportation Summit is for you.
