Essential oils are great allies for the skin and have been used in cosmetics and skin care.πŸ’§

They aid healing, promote cellular repair, ease inflammation, support immune response, and act as natural antimicrobials.😍

Another aspect to healthy skin is treating the underlying conditions related to compromised skin health. Essential oils also support these aspects including:
βœ”οΈ supporting digestive heath modulating the gut-skin axis and assisting in nutrient absorption
βœ”οΈ assisting with detoxification and liver and gallbladder health to remove toxins and tame the resulting oxidative stress and inflammation
βœ”οΈ balancing hormones which impact skin elasticity and tone
βœ”οΈ aiding blood sugar balance by regulating stress, cortisol, and supporting glucose utilization (think cinnamon oil)

As the numbers of those with psychiatric disorders continue to rise, it has become evident that we need a better approach to mental health care. 🧐

What is sorely lacking in current brain health approaches are supportive mind-body practices. This is not to replace conventional psychiatric care, but to offer the holistic perspective and personalized care that is missing in mainstream medicine.πŸ‘

Essential oils are a potent yet gentle holistic modality that possess powerful biochemical and physical properties. 😍 Yet, they are perhaps most well-known for their ability to induce relaxation and relieve stress.😌

In this video blog, I share how essential oils can assist with emotional balance. You will learn why I feel they should become an important addition to mainstream psychiatric treatment to achieve better brain health in America. 🧠

Topics include:
βœ”οΈ The current state of mental health in America
βœ”οΈ How essential oils aid brain health and balance emotions
βœ”οΈ Psychoaromatherapy: Using essential oils for psychiatric disorders, featuring highlights from an Essential Oils Revolution podcast with world-renowned aromatherapist, Jade Shutes

When summer arrives, our awareness of creatures that could adversely affect our health increases. 🀨

Among the most worrisome are tiny ticks, which can carry numerous pathogens within them.

These blood-feeding, saliva-injecting vectors can latch onto our skin and transmit alarming microbes. 😱

These include Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium responsible for Lyme disease, along with various co-infections.

Learn more about Lyme disease and often overlooked factors as contributors to chronic Lyme disease symptoms in the reel below. πŸ‘‡

I also highlight three of my most popular interviews aired on the Essential Oil Revolution podcast with some of the world's leading Lyme Disease experts, including on the topic of prevention.

Is Your Mental Health Diagnosis Really a Vitamin Deficiency? πŸ™‹

Vitamin B12 deficiency can easily be missed, often leading to misdiagnosed psychiatric issues. 😱

Neuropsychiatric symptoms related to pernicious anemia, known as "megaloblastic madness," are frequently overlooked or incorrectly diagnosed because of the conventional approach that prioritizes symptoms. πŸ˜”

Pernicious anemia is an autoimmune disorder of the stomach’s parietal cells or the intrinsic factor protein they produce. Intrinsic factor is needed to absorb vitamin B12 in the small intestine. Without it, B12 can't get into the bloodstream. πŸ…±οΈ

When summer rolls around, our vigilance regarding deterring the critters that could harm our health intensifies.🧐

Some of the most concerning pests are the tiny ticks that can can carry within them many pathogens. πŸͺ³

These blood-sucking, spitting spirochetes can attach to our bodies and transmit some scary microbes. 😱

These include Borrelia burgdorferi, which can lead to Lyme disease, and its various co-infections. 🫣

So, to spare you the misery of having these viscous vectors ruin your summer and your health, I released a video blog full of resources on Lyme disease. 😎

In it, I present an overview of Lyme disease and discuss factors that may contribute to persistent Lyme disease symptoms.

Additionally, I feature key concepts on Chronic Lyme Disease from three previously-aired interviews from the Essential Oil Revolution podcast featuring internationally recognized Lyme disease practitioners.

Topics include:
βœ”οΈ Why Lyme disease is so scary
βœ”οΈ How modern medicine is missing persistent Lyme symptoms
βœ”οΈ Overlooked contributors to chronic Lyme disease symptoms in conventional care
βœ”οΈ Integrative approaches to treating chronic Lyme disease. These include: considering vagal tone and safety, the connection of Lyme disease to autoimmunity and other chronic conditions, and merging holistic, naturopathic treatments with preventative strategies

No one likes a fuzzy brain! 🧠 Brain fog can make one feel fatigued, both physically and emotionally. πŸ₯± It can also lead to anxiety, depression, and decreased function due to the brain not optimally functioning.

Certain plant compounds have been shown to decrease inflammation, oxygenate the brain, enhance circulation, move lymph, and calm the nervous system. πŸ‘

Essential oils have an ability to support brain health and function due to their multifaceted actions. πŸ’§

They are natural antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, circulatory and lymph enhancers, and they modulate neurotransmitters. 🧠

These properties can help to lift brain fog and support emotional health and cognition. 😁

I also have a post on how essential oils can help with fatigue and focus.

My favorites that I use with my clients, along with Parasympathetic blend, include peppermint, rosemary, sage, jasmine, and citrus oils.😍

Happy to share the links, just comment below.

When I was younger, I had horrible skin, thankfully that shifted with getting into natural medicine. I know how emotionally hard it is when the world sees our face and we want to hide.

Essential oils are great companions in cosmetics and skin care.😍 I use them daily for this and now, I don't have to hide.πŸ‘‡πŸ₯°

Of course, dilution and safety is paramount, and that in mind, here's some great info from the Tisserand Institute on oils in key areas:

βœ”οΈ Essential oils can lower stress and cortisol, which impacts the gut-skin axis and may assist with skin barrier
βœ”οΈ Tea tree is great for acne and Lemon-scented Eucalyptus is also helpful for fungus
βœ”οΈ Essential oils can decrease inflammation, Coriander, Lavender, Palmarosa, Rose, Geranium and Patchouli have the most research for skin at dilutions less than 1%.
βœ”οΈ Coriander, Immortelle (H. italicum), Tumeric, and Frankinscense may help with collagen.

The lymphatic system is crucial for maintaining your immune defenses, balancing bodily fluids, and absorbing fats along with nutrients that dissolve in them. πŸ’ͺ When lymph flow becomes sluggish, it can lead to toxin buildup, inflammation, water retention, and digestive issues. 😱

Boosting lymphatic circulation aids in detoxifying tissues, lowering inflammation, enhancing immunity, and improving digestion. πŸ˜€ Applying essential oils to specific areas of lymphatic congestion in a certain sequence can promote better lymphatic drainage and fluid circulation. πŸ’§

Activating these areas with essential oils may assist in the delivery of nutrients to tissues through the bloodstream and the elimination of waste products from tissues via both lymphatic and venous systems.😍

Learn how essential oils and the "Big 6" can improve lymph flow and enhance health. I use these points with all my clients and they notice a difference! πŸ‘‡

Oxytocin, the β€œlove and bonding” hormone. 😍

It is made in your brain’s hypothalamus and facilitates childbirth, breastfeeding, bonding, calms the brain and body, reduce stress, and may lessen pain and promote healing.

As with all hormones, you want a healthy balance.

Learn more about oxytocin below and 13 ways to boost it. Plus discover a bonus- how essential oils can modulate this hormone of love. πŸ₯°

Low oxytocin levels have been associated low mood, feeling vulnerable, and autism. πŸ˜”

High levels can promote monogamy, but too high can cause envy, over protection, group-think, distrust, prejudice, and overlooking red flags.❗

β€œHigh testosterone, separation from a loved one, social isolation, bereavement, and acute stress are examples of things that can decrease oxytocin.”

Most people tend to be low.

13 Natural ways to support a healthy balance (many supported by research) by Amen Clinics include:

1. Touch - holding hands, hugs, snuggles
2. Massage -giving and receiving
3. Social bonding with friends.
4. Giving a gift
5. Share an eyegaze
6. Listening to music you love
7. Yoga class
8. Meditating (Loving Kindness)
9. Social interactions (meaningful exchanges of love and expressions)
10. Being of service
11. Petting your pets
12. Breaking bread with loved ones
13. Making love

Bonus: Essential Oils πŸ’§
In a human trial with fifteen postmenopausal woman, ten essential oils were evaluated for their impact on oxytocin.
βœ”οΈ The experiment consisted of each individual being exposed to a control and an essential oil for 20 minutes per day.
βœ”οΈ Saliva was collected before and after the control and experiment conditions.
βœ”οΈ The authors concluded: β€œsalivary oxytocin concentrations increased significantly more after exposure to lavender, neroli, jasmine absolute, roman chamomile, clary sage, and Indian sandalwood than after exposure to the control odor.”

What's your favorite way to boost oxytocin?

About Sarah LoBisco, ND, IFCMP & BreakFree Medicine

As a licensed naturopathic doctor and certified functional medicine practitioner, my passion is to empower individuals to achieve their current health goals. This is to remove the blockages of fear and worry of diseases and symptoms that keep them from living their passions and fullest lives.

My typical client comes in with reports of some or all of the following: mood disturbances, digestive issues, hormonal and menstrual irregularities, and low energy. They may have other diagnoses such as ADHD, anxiety, autoimmunity, bipolar, celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, depression, OCD, thyroid disease, or other complaints of just β€œfeeling not right.”

I help these individuals (and often their family members) get to the root cause of their symptoms. I do my health detective work and utilize my knowledge of biochemical individuality and epigenetics to individualize a wellness plan that aims to bring them back into health harmony. In our consults, we search out any hidden factors or blockages that will inhibit their body and mind from getting what they need to be optimized and revitalized. We then work together to go over their wellness plan and agree on an action plan that fits best for their needs and goals.

I match each person’s unique genetic makeup and environmental influences with the best supplemental nutritional, herbals, essential oils, and lifestyle practices that work for them at the current time. This protocol is updated and tweaked as they regain body harmony. Once their main symptoms are resolved, they typically pop-in for bi-yearly β€œwellness visits” and β€œhealth optimization.”
