Part 3 of our history series!

Romine “Dick” and Robert, sons of founder Romine R. Bond, continued the business through the late 20th century. Dick retired in 1991, Robert in 1995, and then, Robert’s son, Robert R. Bond, carried on the legacy.

On February 25, 1999, a fire destroyed the top two floors of the mansion. By July 2001, restoration was complete, bringing back the gingerbread woodwork, removing the aluminum siding, and adding modern features like a handicap ramp and bathroom.

Over 100 years later and Bond Funeral Home still stands to serve with compassion, respect, and dignity!

Part 2 of our history series!

The Westinghouse mansion found its lasting purpose in 1929, when Romine R. Bond purchased it and moved Bond Funeral Home from 1307 Broadway to its new home.

Over the years, the building saw updates. A chapel was added in 1958, and in the 1970s, the ornate woodwork was replaced with aluminum siding. The greenhouse windows were covered, and a covered extension was built over the driveway.

We’re excited to take a trip back in time and share the history of Bond Funeral Home! For more than a century, we've been dedicated to serving Capital Region families with care, compassion, and respect.

Part 1: Bond Funeral Home, founded in 1923, has been part of the Schenectady community for over a century. Since 1929, it has been housed in the historic Westinghouse mansion.

The mansion was built in 1887 by George Westinghouse for his mother, featuring 23 rooms and an attached greenhouse at a cost of $22,500. Surprisingly, Westinghouse's mother never lived there. She preferred her State Street home, closer to downtown social life, and some accounts say she thought the mansion was simply too large.

Pictured below is a picture of the house in its early days.

Did you know that, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime? Thanks to advances in early detection and treatment, survival rates have improved significantly. As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we stand in support of survivors, those currently fighting, and we remember the loved ones we have lost to this disease.
