Every spring we clean out closets, garages, and junk drawers. But here’s something most people forget…

Your teeth need a reset too.

Over time plaque hardens into tartar that can’t be removed at home, even with great brushing.
That’s why professional cleanings matter.
A cleaning isn’t just about polish. It’s about protecting the teeth you’ll use for the rest of your life.

At Dr. Coppola’s Office, prevention has always been our philosophy. In fact, many of the families we see today started coming here with Dr. Sam Coppola decades ago — and now we’re caring for their children and grandchildren.

That’s the power of preventive care.

Happy Birthday, Alex! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating one of the gentle hands and kind hearts behind so many healthy smiles at Dr. Coppola’s Office.

Alex, your calm presence, attention to detail, and genuine care for our patients make such a difference every single day. Whether you’re helping a nervous child feel brave, educating a teen about prevention, or catching something early for one of our long-time patients, you do it with compassion and excellence.

In a small hometown practice like ours, relationships mean everything. And you help build those relationships at every visit; one conversation, one smile, one “you’re doing great” at a time.

We are so grateful to have you as part of our team and our dental family. 💙💚

Please join us in wishing Alex the happiest of birthdays! 🎂

Sports build confidence.
Mouthguards protect it.

Custom mouthguards are one of the simplest ways to prevent serious dental trauma, especially for children and teens.

Unlike store-bought guards, custom guards:
• Fit securely
• Allow easy breathing and speaking
• Provide superior protection

It’s a small step that can prevent lifelong damage.

If your child plays sports, save this reminder before the season starts.

Today’s children have something generations before them didn’t:

The real possibility of growing up without cavities.

For many of us, fillings felt almost inevitable.
But dentistry has changed. Education has changed. What we understand about prevention has changed.

And moms… this is where you have more power than you realize.

Cavity-free childhood doesn’t happen by luck. It happens through small, consistent habits:

• Brushing twice a day with the right technique
• Flossing once teeth begin touching
• Limiting frequent sipping of juice or sports drinks
• Encouraging water between meals
• Paying attention to diet patterns, not just sugar, but frequency
• Staying consistent with preventive visits
• Identifying risk factors early before small concerns become bigger ones

It’s not about perfection.
It’s about patterns.

When we combine education at home with preventive care in the office, something remarkable happens:
Children grow up seeing dental care as normal, not stressful.
They grow up with strong enamel, healthy gums, and confidence in their smiles.

And perhaps most importantly, they grow up without the burden of dental problems that could have been prevented.

That’s the future we quietly work toward every day.

Because prevention isn’t just about teeth.
It’s about protecting confidence, comfort, and long-term health.

💙

Save this post if you believe prevention is the greatest gift we can give children — and share it with another mom who’s doing her best to build healthy habits at home.

Some of our patients first came to this office holding their parent’s hand.
Now they’re holding their own child’s.

That’s not something we take lightly.

Our practice was built on relationships, on knowing families by name, by story, by history. Dentistry isn’t just clinical care; it’s continuity.

When you’ve cared for multiple generations, you learn something important:
Every visit matters. Every interaction leaves an impression.

We are honored to be part of so many family stories here in Scotia and grateful for the trust passed down through generations.

That trust is our greatest responsibility.

If your family has been coming here for years (or decades), we’d love to hear your story in the comments 🤍

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and in our office, this month means something very personal.

We’ve had the privilege of watching babies grow into teenagers…
teenagers become parents…
and parents bring their children through our doors.

Healthy smiles don’t happen by accident. They’re built slowly… through prevention, education, and trust.

For children, that means:
• Establishing healthy habits early
• Understanding diet and cavity risk
• Making dental visits feel safe, familiar, and positive
• Protecting natural teeth whenever possible

Our philosophy has always been simple:
Nothing is more beautiful than a healthy, natural smile.

If you’re a parent, know this… we don’t just look at teeth.
We look at the whole child. Their growth, habits, comfort, and long-term health.

Because what we do today quietly shapes their confidence for years to come.💙

If you’re a parent, save this post or share it with another family who may need reassurance about starting dental care early.

The biggest cavity risk for kids isn’t candy.

It’s what happens after a long day — when kids fall asleep exhausted, routines get rushed, or brushing gets skipped “just this once.”

Cavities don’t usually come from one piece of candy. They develop quietly over time, often when teeth aren’t fully cleaned before bed and saliva naturally decreases during sleep.

Those peaceful nighttime moments matter more than we realize.

Simple, consistent habits — especially brushing before bed — help protect growing smiles and prevent problems that can affect children for years to come.

We know parenting is busy. We’re here to support you, not judge, and to help protect the smiles you care about most

And If bedtime brushing feels like a battle, you’re not alone.

As parents, we do everything we can to protect our children—from teaching them to look both ways before crossing the street to making sure they eat their veggies (even if they negotiate for just one bite!). Their dental health is no different, and small steps today can mean a lifetime of healthy smiles.

At every visit, our hygienists carefully check if your child is ready for fluoride treatments and sealants, two simple but powerful ways to prevent cavities:

✔️ Fluoride strengthens enamel, making teeth more resistant to decay.
✔️ Sealants create a protective barrier, keeping food and bacteria out of hard-to-reach molars.

Both are quick, painless, and incredibly effective—and we’ll always recommend them when the timing is just right. Because at Dr. Coppola’s office, we care about more than just teeth. We care about growing up with healthy habits that last a lifetime.

💙 Have questions about your child’s dental care? We’re always here to help!

Baby teeth matter more than people realize.

Baby teeth do more than help children chew and smile — they play an important role in speech development, jaw growth, and holding space for adult teeth.

When baby teeth are lost too early due to cavities or infection, it can affect spacing and alignment later on. That’s why preventive care and healthy habits matter, even when teeth are “just temporary.”

Early guidance helps protect growing smiles and supports long-term oral health.

We’re proud to care for smiles at every stage — from first teeth to adult ones

Save this for later or share with a parent who might not know 🤍

❄️ Why Teeth Feel More Sensitive in Winter

If your teeth feel more sensitive during the winter months, there’s a reason — and it’s very common.

Cold outdoor air and temperature changes can stimulate the nerves inside your teeth, especially if enamel is worn or gums have receded. Winter dryness can also reduce saliva, which normally helps protect teeth from sensitivity and irritation.

Common winter contributors to sensitivity include:
• Cold air hitting exposed tooth surfaces
• Dry indoor heat reducing saliva
• Existing enamel wear or gum recession
• Brushing too hard with stiff bristles

Sensitivity is often a signal — not something to ignore. Addressing it early can help prevent bigger issues and keep you comfortable year-round.

If sensitivity lingers or worsens, let us know. We’re always happy to take a closer look.

❄️ Winter Dry Mouth & Cavities

Cold winter air, indoor heating, and less water intake can all lead to dry mouth this time of year — and that can quietly increase the risk for cavities.

Saliva plays an important role in protecting teeth by washing away bacteria and neutralizing acids. When saliva is reduced, teeth are more vulnerable.

Simple winter tips to protect your smile:
• Sip water throughout the day
• Limit frequent snacking on sugary or sticky foods
• Brush twice daily and floss once a day
• Use a humidifier at night if your home air feels dry

If you’ve noticed increased sensitivity, dryness, or changes in your mouth this winter, let us know. We’re always happy to help keep small concerns from becoming bigger ones.

Stay warm, stay hydrated, and take good care ❄️
